I just tested my 3rd M3 convertible, and I am wondering...what is it that makes the suspension so tight..there has to be more to it than 17 inch wheels...moreover, I was thinking of puting a 3.23 diff in my 328i to compensate for my cars lack of off the line kick. What are the downsides of changing the final drive ratio? Will I wear out the clutch sooner, will it run like a rubber band, rev like a food processor, since the gear ratios will be different, not to mention the engine. Finally would anyone comment on the value (in projected percieved performance) of waiting for the E46 M-3, instead of trading in to a used M-3, of which most examples are not totally clean and will cost me $14000. For only 50 hp difference, versus the new engine, you would think I could answer this myself, but BMWs are still PRICED LIKE YUPPIE MOBILES<SUVS DONT HAVE THE CACHET YET!!!! I digress..I just wonder if there is any reasonable way to get my E36 to handle like the M3, without a lot of aftermarket crap, and without gouging at my BMW dealer. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2000 22:03:19 -0500 From: "Neil Deshpande" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Disabling ABS. Randy: I'll post to the List as well so someone can point out the mistakes! I believe the ABS warning light on the instruments cluster is a part of the ABS circuit. If you remove the lamp, the ABS does not work. Perhaps you could route this to a wire with a switch or something. Alternatively, if you put a switch in line with one of the sensors, it might take the entire system out since one sensor would be 'seen' to be out. The sensors have connectors at each corner in beige. The front one are around the strut towers and the rear ones are under the seat. You can tap in without cutting anything. The relay that you mention is under the dash (behind the under steering column cover) piggyback on the ABS brain. Silver in colour. The tires are in excellent condition and if you're interested, I'll give ya the tread depth (after I measure it ;). I also have (2) 225/45R17 and (1) 245/40R17 8080Es with 8.5k miles. Buyer pays shipping and local pickup (Brooklyn, NY) a possibility as well. Make me an offer. TIA, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I once bought a used '84 Toyota pickup with over 150,000 miles on it. Paid $1000 for it. My gf and I decided to take out the carpet to hose it off the dirt and inside cab. First we found few old (unused) condoms in its package and some coins, then we hit the jackpot, $750. Although the bills had some type of waxy film all over it, I promptly cleaned it off and it was as good as any $100 and $50 bills. We enjoyed that money during our trip to Canada. I later sold the truck for $1500. Ted Subject: [uuc] Re: Whadja find in dere?>From: Scott Ferguson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >What's the best thing YOU'VE ever found inside a used car? I installed the JTD rear shock mounts on my baby today. I only installed the passenger side one since getting to the driver's side one is a pain because of my a/d/s/ amp =( If you want more pictures, I'll snap some more when I do the driver's side. Feel free to point out grammatical or spelling errors (it's kinda late). http://www.geocities.com/chester_p_wong/RearShockMount/ Enjoy! I have looked at my 6 series repair manual and it looks like the A/C evaporator can be removed without removing the heater core. The manual indicates removing the left side knee bolster, center console and glove compartment is about all the interior trim necessary. I need to replace the expansion valve. The front A/C expansion valve on my M6 is acting up. When I start the car cold, the front unit will work for a couple of minutes and then it goes warm. The system freon charge is good. The pressures look ok(180-200 psi high side & 22-30 psi low side) until the rear A/C expansion valve closes, then the suction side will go to a negative pressure (15 inHg). The rear unit works great(35-40 deg F max cool on high fan). The front unit will reach 40 deg. F (35-40 deg F max cool on high fan) before it quits.
