Can any one tell me if there is a difference between these heads, and If one
can be fitted to the other block ?
Has anyone fitted a M52 engine into a M50 car, how difficult is it to set up
for the difference in the crank sensor etc. ?

Many thanks for any information

Subject: [uuc] <E39> Center console rear cupholder repair

Esteemed Gruppe,

Today, while carrying some stuff on the rear floor boards of my 00 E39,
said stuff rolled around during one cornering exercise and banged one of
the cheesy cupholders in the rear console, opening it and then banging
it in such a way it is stuck open. It appears that all I need to do to
fix it is get the plastic pin for the outside "scissors" part of the
cupholder back into the rail it rides in. By standing on my head in the
back seat I can see all this, but no amount of manipulation and careful
use of various tools from outside seems to work.

Is there a way to remove the rear vent and cupholder panel without
tearing the whole console apart? This thing is not really broken (other
than for the fact it is worthless as a cup holder even when it works)
and if I can get to it I should be able to pop the pin back in the
guiding rail.

I am sorely tempted to break the pin off and glue the cupholder closed
as I know my 13 year old will find another way to break it the first
time she tries to use it.

I highly recommend Dent Pro, they bring a van to wherever you are. I've had
several taken out of my cars at a VERY reasonable price. I'm sure there are some
in SoCal. The number in the SF Bay area is 408-267-8506. They can probably give
you a local number contact.

Hi Guys,

I got a dent in the side of my car, as of Sunday - an unfortunate accident.
It's a dent I caused with my knee, when I lost balance. It's about 2" in
diameter. Would it be possible to remove it myself? Do I need special tools?
What would be the process itself?

Otherwise, I was wondering if anybody here in Los Angeles knew of a dent
removal guy? Maybe we can organize a Dent Fest on the West Coast... .

TIA,
Jan.

Alex, take off the rear of the seats (two phillips screws at bottom of back
plate), lift up and remove. The "nails" are sent through the old holes
(left by the old 'nails') and are bent a full 90 degrees. Note how they are
in there before you remove them. You can see them come through the padding
in the seat back. Put them back in the same way. I just did this on my
88M5 and it worked just fine. It is a little tricky, but not a huge PITA.

Hello folks,

Well I placed an order for the ///M seat badges for my E30 ///M3 last week.
I went by the dealer today to pick them up, and to my surprise, they have
huge nails sticking out the back that are used to mount these suckers on the
leather seats. I don't know about you guys, but I get pretty nervous around
sharp objects when they are near my interior.

Is there some trick to putting these things on the seats

Are you perhaps thinking about Klasse, mit der umlaut on der "a"?
It's an acrylic based protector/wax.

FYI, the new 2002 Infiniti Q45 comes with a 4.5L V8 that puts out 340 hp
and 333 lb-ft of torque! That blows away the the 4.4L BMW V8. No clue if
the Infiniti's torque curve is as flat as the BMWs, but it sure has more hp
(+58 hp) from just 0.1L more displacement.

OBMWC: Any word if new version of the BMW V8 are planned? Sure, the M5's
5.0L V8 puts out more power than Infiniti's, but the 'everyday' 540i seems
to be outgunned by the new Q45.

Is this a manual or power seat? If it is a manual version, look under
the seat and you will see a control rod hanging down. Re-attach the rod
and bend it a little so that it does not fall off again. If it is
power, uh-oh!!!! Time to do a little cable repair. This is really very
easy though.

Subject: [uuc] jumping cigarette lighter

Hello all,
The other day I was playing with some of the options in my car that I don't
use very often. Out of curiosity I decided to push in my cigarette lighter
to see if it worked. I don't think that this is supposed to happen, but when
it was done warming up it shot out of it holder and onto my floor. Maybe
its just me but that doesn't seem like the safest "feature" to have in car.
Anyone else notice this?

I've heard a few good things about the Klasse All-In-One myself, and have about
talked myself into trying it. Serious Auto Accessories
http://www.seriousauto.com/all-in-one.html has it at $24.00 for 500ml (16.8 oz),
and also has Klasse Hogh Gloss Sealant Glaze that goes over the All-In-One that
is supposed ot provide "an additional protective layer...with an exceptional
mirror like shine...for up to 12 months."

Any good/bad experiences with Klasse?

Dan-

I think you're talking about "Klasse." It is German, and it is, IMHO, very
good. I use it and love it. The only wax I know if that has acrylic in it,
so it is supposed to be VERY durable. I think it performed very well in the
last C.R. test (1994?), but was labled as "expensive." There is an "all in
one product," and a "sealnt glaze" and are VERY easy to use.
Very hard to find although. Bought it first from the "Harrington" catalog,
and ended up tracking down the US importer for a replacement order. He's in
S.F. CA, and I could probably dig up his name & number somewhere around here.
Anyway, its about $25 for just over a pint if my memory serves me. Way worth
it, and it goes a long, long way. 2 years/ bottle with two cars and a cycle.

Hope that helps - let me know if you need more info.

I had a 85 e23 with this...assuming you have elec
seats you need to remove the seat from the car (bolts
at front and back of each track. Sometimes its a
cable length thing like your headrest...I had one
where the cable went into the little box with a worm
gear where the box cover screws worked loose.
Whichever, align the tow sides of the seat fix the
cable or gearbox; done.
