FYI, I have found some fluid heaters while I was looking if anyone is interested. I find prestone antifreeze washer fluid very effective in removing ice up to 1/8" thick. 1st > -----Original Message----- > From: Brett Anderson [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 12:44 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [uuc] Re: Heated Windshield Washer > > Fuerst, > > You don't get it. > > Most BMW's especially those under 10 years old, have heated washer jets. > > You answered someone's question about a mystery "canister like T fitting", > calling it a fluid heater. > > Totally different thing. Bottlecap wheels, small rubber lip under the front apron, no rear decklid spoiler, regular 325i steering wheel (which i actually like a lot better than the 325is/M3 wheel), and regular clock instead of the full-on OBC. It's kinda hard to see in the pics, but it looks like the rear view mirror is not the maplight type that comes standard on the 89 325is. I wonder what the doorjamb sticker says the car is ? I know of a woman in Hawaii who just bought what she thought was an 89 325is with the same AA13 code in the VIN but her car is most definitely a base model 325i with *none* of the goodies that normally comes on the 325is. The doorjamb sticker says it's a 325i/A, yet the VIN and Carfax indicate a 325is. She doesn't care, she wanted a base car anyway but just thinks it strange that it comes up as a 325is. Hers is not the first 325i with a 325is VIN code, i've seen a few other all-original examples of 89 325i models with the same AA13 VIN code as a 325is. I wonder if something is up with the 89 models and their VINs? The 89 is the only year i've seen this 325i/325is VIN discrepancy. Regardless, the car is very clean and looks to be worth the money :-) Randy 89 325is Rich Dorffer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >No personal interest in this car, just thought you all would like to take a >look: > >http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=592547873& >r=0&t=0 >http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3792987/992913083865_325_combo2.jpg >http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3792987/992913083536_325_combo3.jpg >http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3792987/992912892756_325_combo4.jpg >I would have considered it if I had not just bought the one I have. >Regards, >Rich ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 00:35:15 -0400 From: "Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Inner workings of an S54.... http://www.koalamotorsport.com/s54.htm - --------------------------- Now offering BMW special tool rental and pay per incident tech help. - --------------------------- Brett Anderson www.koalamotorsport.com Home of the E30 M3 CD-ROM repair manual ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 21:39:53 -0700 From: Al Stensby <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] HARD STARTING About a year ago I asked for yoour collective advice on my intermittent starting problem on my '89 525. Some smart-mouthed guy said "give us something tough to work on, this is a no-brainer it's leaking fuel injectors". In the meantime I have been adding injector cleaner to every tank of gas to no avail. Also, my trusted mechanic acquaintance wasn't sure that was the answer. So finally I removed the injectors and had them rebuilt by RC Engineering in Torrance. Now it starts every time. Smart mouth was right, it was a no-brainer and the injectors weren't too hard to get out (after I took the valve cover off)! Sounds like that might be Trevor Turner's problem also, but I did a lot of fuel pressure testing to make sure the regulator was working properly ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 00:47:41 -0400 From: Rob Levinson * UUC Motorwerks <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Justification for Higher Education Remember that '80s poster, "Justification for Higher Education"? The one with the mansion and the detached 6-car garage with various M-Bs, Lambos, Furryaris, etc. sticking out? I was talking about that poster with a good friend over dinner the other night. Of course, you have to make your lists in four flavors; price-dependent and price-independent, plus modified and stock. Oddly enough, many of my choices were BMW or BMW-based: Price-dependent list included (among others): M Roadster with M54 M5 (either my current E34 or a new E39 in 2000 Avus Blau but with 2001 nose) 750iL (after I go to Yurrup and Individual-order the Sport package) Price-independent included (among others): Z8 Z8 (daily driver as the first one is sitting in the living room to be stared at) McLaren F1 850CSi Price-dependent, modified (among others): ERT-tuned M Roadster Nowack-tuned M5 Price-independent, modified (among others): McLaren F1 (hey, it already is "modified") A V12 in _something_ else. The man died after being thrown from his 2001 BMW two-door coupe following a collision with a light standard less than 50 metres from the intersection of Alderbridge Way and Garden City Road around 3 a.m. Saturday morning. Evidence from motorists who were in the area at the time has led police to conclude that the man was racing another vehicle when he lost control of his powerful sports car. Richmond RCMP Const. Peter Thiessen said police are now looking for that second vehicle, described as a red or orange-coloured newer model Volkswagen Jetta. The man was the sole occupant of the BMW at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. An impromptu memorial of burned incense sticks, fried chicken wings, shrimp crackers, cigarettes and flowers were lain at the scene of the accident, also marked by distinctive orange police paint marking the tire marks and the final resting place of the vehicle and the man's body. http://www.richmondreview.com/story27742.html?LeftSide=%23FFFFFF&HighlightCo lour=%23336633&HotSpotColour=%23FFFFFF&LinkColour=%23336633 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 11:01:27 -0700 From: "Kevin Kelly" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Re:Spoilers Schmoilers Tammer Farid wrote: >I forget who mentioned the TT's spoiler, but that case >supports Mike's argument. Steve Dinan once said that the downforce from a rear spoiler is equal to the actual weight of the spoiler until you get way above legal U.S. speeds. I am not sure about every BMW, but I know that the E24, E28, E31, E32 and E34 all have no problem going well over 130 mph without a rear spoiler. I guess the Honda Civic DX must not be as stable at high speeds since I see so many of them with giant rear spoilers and wings driving around San Francisco.
