I have one as well, but although Carfax knows it as an "is", the BMW web
site has a register your car section and they know that my '87 is an
"is" and the '89 is an "i". This is despite folks telling me that there
was no VIN number coding of "is" models in '87.

I disagree.

I could never get a stock E28 to go over 127mph. 130? Couldn't happen.
Aerodynamics of a sheet of plywood.

Must've been the "longtail" effect of the spoilers on the modified E28s that
let me push them to... well, let's not talk about that, okay? ;-)

Careful here, Stephen,

I don't think you have the same ones as other folks are talking about.
The Pioneers folks say are available locally were the six circle logo
ones that were an industry standard from Sharp. The ones Don is probably
talking about are the ones for the later Alpine I-bus model (that he
sold me one of) and not the earlier Alpine one in your wife's car.

I'm checking into this issue just now and will post what I find out.

I disagree. I have seen in excess of 138 indicated, probably well over
130 in my stock E28 and it still had RPM, pedal and oomph left. I was
deficient in the spheres category (and the car had been sitting in
Tennessee for most its life)

A few (Kevin James voice) questionies,
Is that an O-ring pan seal?
What's with the tubes? Multiple oil pickups?
If so - why only a screen (and a small one at that)
on the RF? And the woodruff key in the cam is
a mystery.

Thanks,

Yes Gary I'd say this is exactly what my car is doing. Why does this happen

an E-36 M3 has no problem at 160mph with no spoiler, hehe or so I have
heard.
A LTW will not get over about 145-150mph with the spoiler due to the drag.
Or atleast after 10 miles and that was it.

FYI - my bushings made my E30 do the side to side shimmy.
Balance was fine. I have another vibration but now that's the wheels.
Check the hardware then get the wheels balanced, or rotate them
and look for a change. If none of the above work, check the rotors
and/or the calipers.

I agree, I have seen an indicated 142mph with an actual distance/time
measured speed of 137 in a mile. And it still had some more in it, but the
other 3 people in the car had shut up about the impala SS we had passed a
1/4mile back that was stuck at its speed limiter. And this car had 229,000
miles on it at the time. Damn I miss my old E-28.

I have seen "The Wall" countless times but WTF?

Also, why don't they yet make light poles (unless it was wood of course)
follow the same regs as breakaway signs? I bet some lives could be saved
my making these immobile objects mobile.

I'd hate to break the news to you about "BMW miles". Rather optimistic in
the speedometers, and oftentimes in the odometers.

8% is a mild guess on older models.

Okay, it's official. My stock E28 was a slow-ass sorry pig. I think I had
the cams for torque, not hp... that thing would smoke the TRXs like they
were going out of style (how appropriate!).

The 535i Turbo and M5 Turbo on the other hand...

I've flored my E36 320I to 217 km/t (135mph).
The rpm limither pulled in :)

Looks very clean, is it new ?

I remeber from my early 50cc days,
there was always parts left when the engine was put together ;)

But it worked,
and milkboxes makes good gaskets =D

Doug:

My 1995 540 used a pair of double-ended plastic widgets to hold down the
floor mats. One end poked into the floor and the other locked through a
plastic grommet in the mats. If your car takes the same things, I may be
able to help you as my car was missing these things too when I got it. I
don't remember any of the details (and have since sold the car), but I found
the name of the mat manufacturer (imprinted on the grommet or the back of
the mat, I believe, and looked them up on the web. With a bit of digging I
found their phone number and gave them a call. The receptionist was very
nice and sent me a set three days later at no charge. Great company! They
were flimsy little things, but did the job. Give it a try, I'll bet she'll
do it again.
