How about the active check control, recognizing the new blinkers (and no more front bumper mounted running lights which I'd remove) and so forth? Do I replace some chip or ECU that gives the active check control its parameters? Thanks for any advice. Wasn't only the 330. It is all 2001+ E46 models. There wasn't really a decision to go back to the 'classical' feel. However, it appears that '02 models will have the old steering as well as sport suspension standard. It is said that this is an American phenom. BMWNA is offering retrofits to customers who request the 'older' steering. A friend called two weeks ago and was told they were 700 on the list. Some say the list is over 2000 customers. (NA apparantly underestimated demand for this procedure.) I drove a 'retro' 330 against my (E46) 328 last night. The retro steering feels much heavier in low speed situations, and about the same in 'normal' driving. The front of the car felt a bit heavier, but I'm guessing it had more toe than my car.
