You know, I really don't think the Aztec is that bad. I think if it had
tires/wheels that filled up the wheelwells better, it would look much
better. I don't see how it's much worse than a Hummer.

Of course, I like the M-coupe.

I just saw the BMW flicks on Speedvision ( not the 'net) and being ignorant

Great comments on the E34 Touring. This was such a good chassis that
something like 53% of all E34 M5s sold in Europe were in the Touring
configuration. I wish all of us here in the US interested in more room
would buy these nice wagons instead of the monstrous trucks that we have on
our roads now. I'm never for too much government regulation but if a
government is truly there to provide safety for its citizens, then it should
have prohibited those things a long time ago.

The E39 wagon is a beautiful car as well.

The single biggest advantage for the 530 over the 525 is that the 4.0 and
later 4.4 V8s are a drop-in replacement. I would think that would make a
sweet car though it'll never feel as nimble as the 525.

Steve,
I had upgraded my seats to M3 seats, and my best guess is that I
scraped the side bolster on my seat hard enough that upon impact the force
was enough to tear out the piece of skin that I'm now missing. :P

Subject: [uuc] Re: <e30>Cooling Problems(sigh)

Gruppe,

I continue to have cooling issues with the beloved E30. I replaced a bad fan
clutch and the car runs at the mark even at long lights, which is good and
what I expected. But I made a trip to NYC yesterday and got stuck in traffic
for about an hour. Car was running up to the 3/4 mark, so I put the heat on
hot and ran the fan at high. This kept the car at 3/4 the whole time and made
me sweat like Nixon at the Kennedy debate. Funny thing is the heat didn't
actually kick in until the car moved a little in traffic. Could that be
symptomatic of another problem? When I replaced the 1st fan clutch the car
would only overheat if i let it sit at idle for a real_long time (say 45
mins) I don't want to be replacing parts willy nilly, but I would assume that
with 250k I should prob start with the water pump!
On a side note, I picked up a cheapo Strauss Auto spare tire until I get new
tires from Tire rack (Yoko AVSi's, of course) The jackass there put a 195 60
14 on the rim when I told them I wanted a 195 65 14. I didn't realize my prob
until I mounted the tire and drove around some. Is it ok to have one tire
"out of whack" for a short period (1 week or so).
TIA as always,
Jim

Brian,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Will you be getting another BMW to replace
this one? Accidents are always bad, but the bright side is that you can
replace it with something upgraded from what you had. Again, sorry to
hear about the wreck, and I hope you recover fully.

$875 buys $1128 of credit against any Toshiba product. I've already bought
everything I can conceivably need for my laptop, and $1128 is what is
remaining on this card.

Subject: [uuc] Head Gasket Replacement

CR:

I've watched a head gasket repair and no special tools
are required. At 93k miles you can probably just put
the head back on w/o issues. If you plan to keep the
car forever (200k miles) then you might want to
recondition the valve guides and such to minimise oil
consumption later on.

Make sure you check the head is not warped or leaking
(straight edge and pressure test) and maybe have the
combustion chamber, valves and piston tops cleaned.

1992 735i overheated several months ago and it now has
oil in coolant. Talked to a independent shop on
having it repaired. He is getting info on parts for
an estimate, I am having him to redo water pump,
timing
belt or chain and any other items that would need to
be replaced. It has 93K on it. Any other suggestions
on engine repairs while it is down.

Are their special tools needed to remove and reinstall
head and the associated parts? Any idea on the cost
for parts and labor?

Hi gang,
Been in the weeds for a while, but need some guidance. When pulling away from
a stop, the alert system tells me a door is open. I know all the doors are
closed and that its is probably a sensor. Is there a way to disable the
alerts until I can diagnose and repair the sensor(s)? The visual alert is not
bad, but the persistent "gonging" is highly distracting (maybe I should use
my cel phone to counter the gong distraction).
Cheers,

Subject: [uuc] <e30> Re: fuel tank assistance required

fyi, My tank did the same terrible leaking with a full tank after someone
sat in pass rear seat. Didn't notice it until the next fill-up, of course.
After finding the leak's source, I replaced the 3" seal for the pump, and it
stopped leaking. Make sure that it's rust and not just looseness if you're
not determined to replace the tank.

I did get a replacement tank though, and after reading the posts I think
it's an "earlier" one, which is disappointing since the car's a 90. It has
the "crossover" tube. What year(s) does the earlier one consist of (later
ones being 88-91)?

thanks.
