Philip: When you checked http://www.classifieds2000.com, did you check under their "Station Wagon" category? <http://www.classifieds2000.com/cgi-cls/display.exe?partner=c2k&path=Auto~Car~Search&form=stationWagon&> They have 4 530iTs listed there. There are no 540iTs in the E34 style. Neil Deshpande http://www.neilwerke.com *** "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Does anyone have a lead or source on a 530i/540i Touring preferably E34 since that is more in line with my budget.. If he wants to complain about the amount of time a car has been in for service, try my 2000 VW Jetta. It went in for a minor problem in April, and has been out of my hands for over 60 days so far. I've just started arbitration to get them to take the damn thing back under the lemon law. - -- Roger Baker "Dean Boucouras" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Let me clearly state my point. > > I personally think that the guy who created the website donotbuyabmw.com is > overdoing it with his complaints. Talked to a independent shop on having it repaired. He is getting info on parts for an estimate, I am having him to redo water pump, timing belt or chain and any other items that would need to be replaced. It has 93K on it. Any other suggestions on engine repairs while it is down. Thanks CR ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2001 08:46:49 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Hart) Subject: [uuc] E36 BMW sat/nav Happy July I test drove a 99 M3c, and of all the things to play with at traffic lights, what should I grab but a remote control (like for a tv couch potato) by BMW for the gooseneck LCD sat nav system. I've never seen this installation or unit in action, and its fittment onto the ac lowest centre duct seemed solid. However, I suspect the top down motorist may have let rain or excessive sun kinda make ripples on the screen, so I wondered if this unit was less insulated than other, in dash systems..or could it be that LCD screens generally fade in uniform display quality over time? It was a neat toy for finding amusement parks, which would have been a great excuse for extending the test drive to NJ, PA, CA, etc (to dealer.."sorry, I was just following the directions from Natick, Mass!"). Sadly, I didn't find Six Flags OR Disney, and wondered if that information is programmed by BMW or is user updated..in either case, how are similar lists for this unit updated, changed or corrected? Do you have to remove the brain, and take it to BMW (not mine, I'll take my daughter to Shaker VIllage b4 going to Disney!)? At any rate, does anyone know if this, US supplied monitor screen can be modified to accept NTSC (yeah, you got the lawsuit for my trying to play VHS, DVD or god forbid, a real laptop-someday soon!)? Judging from insights of knowledgable digesters on similar subjects, it seems Europe has the option of tv signals, and I wonder if this unit has similar linkings within (e.g a S-Video, or component input in the box). Does anyone know if it could be easily wired to display on air NTSC television?). Sadly, I have to go back about 15 years, when I used a Sony 3 inch LCD on my Range Rover's center dash top cut-away with a "CD audio cassette adapter for true mono sound". It was great for playing videos when driving CA to AK-my wife watched, I simply listened (yeah sure, ey boy, sell your 328 and buy a mini van!). Finally, if anyone has familiarity with this LCD nav system, or others in general that can be added to the car, are there any better systems than BMW's on the market in terms of 1. accuracy of directions, and listed "emergency/amusement" data (is this stuff updated by a thinking North American entity, or is it just laid in once into RAM/ROM?)2, Higher level of information possible, like god forbid, telephone, e mail, radar detecton and police car locator (could that be by monitoring of their in car data laptop transmissions? Would that be legal, if unlikely?)....net surfing, car location forwarding (never mind On Star, worry about the wife or husband tracking your location on line!) etc.. Is e mail and or telephone a part of the Euro GSM current capability for cellphones, much less SAT/NAV in car systems,, or is it possible that the US will leapfrog in next 2-10 years with next generation cellphone technology? Sorry for all the speculative chatter! Anyone know what the BMW SAT/NAV system sells for at best supplier known price..or do they ever sell used? I swear, it won't distract me to have one, but it doesn't seem worth more than $700 in what it does today versus what might be available in a couple more years, if the economy drops enough to inspire technical insipration and invention..think GW Bush may need to have a little war to bring much of that around here! Sorry-vague politic rant John-96 328is c; there's still the OBC temp, distance and mileage to play with on board! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2001 09:26:20 -0400 From: "Bill Matthews" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [uuc] E36 BMW sat/nav BMW uses Navigation Technologies system (www.navtech.com), as does most of the European and US car makers. They differ on implementation from make to make, BMW uses a data base that divides the US in to five regions, with a CD for each region. BMW's borders don't make a lot of sense (cut some states in half), but any non contiguous system will present problems. You get one CD with the car and if you want other areas or updated CD's you have to buy them from NAVTECH. The Database is pretty good for major metropolitan areas and major highways, and sucks for anything else. Any Region's CD covers Interstates across the US, but for detail you have to swap the CD in for the region your in. Until this technology advances to real-time traffic info (which it is just starting to do) and better coverage for rural areas it's a fancy toy with some usefulness if you are in a covered area and have the right CD. I suspect that the state of the art will advance faster than the auto manufacturers will add it to their product line so the most advanced stuff will be aftermarket for awhile.
