Subject: [uuc] I heard running water in the M3 today...

I was driving to the bus depot today in the M3, and I heard the sound
of a small creek. I looked down in the passenger floorwell to see
SEVERAL INCHES of water rushing forward when I hit the brakes. I
knew it rained a bit yesterday, but this is ridiculous.

I know to check the sunroof drains at all four corners, but where
else should I look for leaks? There is no water in the trunk (that I
know of) and all of the water is contained on the passenger side.

Thanks
James

Subject: [uuc] <E28> ABS help!

OK all you ABS geeks out there I've got a weird one. After bleeding the
brakes on my '86 535i (rear subframe was out for bushings etc.) and
subsequently driving for ~5 miles the ABS light came on solid and has been
on ever since. I did notice BEFORE the ABS light turned on, when coming to
a complete stop, I could feel something in the pedal (and hear) like the ABS
was cycling for a brief second. This all stopped when the light turned on.
Braking otherwise feels normal.

Air still in the system? Any leads where to start troubleshooting? Any
help appreciated.

When you replaced the bushings you had the entire subframe out? Did you
take proper care of the wires to the rear abs sensors? Perhaps a wire has
come disconnected or a sensor has fallen and can't get up? Check the wires
and pull the sensors and clean them.

Subject: [uuc] Pristine '97 328iA sedan For Sale

Having just bought a '98 540/, I am forced to sell the following:

'97 328i sedan
VIN WBACD4327VAV46749
Montreal Blue
gray leather interior
auto transmission
upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo
factory 6 CD changer
heated seats and locks
On Board Computer
split fold down rear seat
sun roof
power windows, locks, seats, etc.

The car is in virtually perfect shape, with about 32,000 miles.
Everything
works just as it's supposed to. Synthetic oil changes every 4000 miles,

tires rotated every 3000 miles or so, garaged, hand washed only, Blitz
waxed every 3 months, parked miles from anyone else. The car has never
been tracked, autocrossed, or even Concoursed! It has Blizzak winter
tires mounted on separate BMW alloys as well. We planned on keeping
this a long, time and it's been absolutely perfect so far. However,
after
selling my 911 last year, I have the urge for a manual transmission
again and succumbed to the power of a 540i.

I'm asking $26,000 with the snow tires and rims (and extra oil filters
and air filters). I don't think you will find a nicer E36 sedan. The
Montreal Blue is a deep, rich color that receives many compliments and
has been well taken care of. The car is located in the suburbs of
Chicago. Please email me if you want any further details. Sorry for
the WOB and cross posting.

My 5/96 production M3 used plastic. Ask me how I know...

Maybe 5/96 was a transition month?

In any other manufacturer's model number system we'd already be at about
Valentine 6 by now anyway. Mine started life as the original model in 93,
and has been updated several times (Ka band, laser, further Ka update,
features) as the design changed.

Anybody been there ?? done that ??

His chip made a huge diff in my '90 535...Is it worth the money
for my '94 540 ??

All comments appreciated....well, most.

TOM (an Oregon TOM too ...)>

Yep, I did. I got one direct from Jim back before he started marketing
them through Eurpsport, Turner, et al. I had to send him my original
chip to copy, no problem since I had a Dinan chip in the car at the
time. Great work, removed the top speed limiter, raised the rev limit,
smoother, more power(that's what its all about, right?).

Jim C. the only way to go.

Don,

You are psychic! How did you know it fogs up when the heater is on?!?!? Yes it does!
And how did you know it's a '98 E36? You're amazing! So the heater core is dead, eh.
I've complained to the dealer about this a few months ago, but he dismissed it as
can't find anything type of resolution. It hasn't had any need of the heater lately,
so I have not complained.

Thanks for the input, I'm going back to "explain" it again. It should be covered under
my extended warranty.

Uh.. we need more clues, like year/model of the BMW.. some have
been known to loose a heater core (usually demonstrates itself
by fogging the windshield if the defogger is on, and the smell..)

But - we need more info.

Mebbe it was the car in front of you spewing coolant? The one
Kevin's wife was driving? (Just trying to be optimistic here..)

Could someone give me the quick and dirty physics/basics of engine
braking? Would a lightweight flywheel decrease engine braking? Is engine
braking bad - i.e. does it put unnecessary strain/wear and tear on the
engine? TIA!

Vacuum pump. No significant strain. Can suck extra oil due to high vacuum,
especially for worn out engine. Highly recommended for long downgrades
rather than dragging the brakes.

Has anyone done a real comparison of the different chips? I'm in the same
situation, with my 94 540iA, and would love to see some test results/reviews
of different chips.

Bill, did you switch from a Dinan chip to the Jim C chip? Why? How much
better was Jim's chip?
