Wheel "reconditioning" contractual failures. Sorry for frothing the weekend gruppe groping, but no one will likely remember Monday what's my latest complaint; I just got my M3 lightweight wheels from Rim and Wheel Works, in Bath PA, and I feel I've really taken a bath. ASIDE: I know Mr. Levinson says flame only if you feel someone really deserves it, but I mean, I called the folks for 6 weeks after they charged me 1,450US $, and what I got, reconditioned, as their phone hold announcer says is.."factory as new refinished..guaranteed".. is in my case: 1. Mirror finish chrome on outermost surfaces, which is easily singled out from OEM poilished chrome, and of questionable durability..i.e, in northern climes at least, mirror chrome fades quite readily. 2.The fact is, even the most novice M3 aE36 afficianado can tell that the wheels are nowhere near polished and professionally coated as the GMBH OEM's. That, on top of 3. various pits, scratch marks and blister repairs of cracks that look like solder points make me willing to RANT to others reading thus far to AVOID this company for refinishing (and take a whole S---load of photos B4 and after mounting of wheels. Ontop of all this, they double spoke to me as a novice customer=DELAY TACTICS, in terms of the chemistry of refinishing and blah blah, etc, rather than making promises that they could keep, other than that the wheels will be straight and true (FWIW, all their anodizing and chroming happen to be farmed out to who knows who in Latrobe PA or god knows where, and the result is crappy quality and turnaround, even though they contracted with all the "Lehigh Univ. metallurgical studies qualifications" as if to say they do it all in house! . I know this sounds like I'm griping, but they clearly had me over a barrel for almost two months, promising they'd have results as good as stock, and yet again, I am screwed seeking a cheaper than OEM alternative at $360 each....I actually had my credit card co. charge their bank back for non-delivery..so tell me, capitalist bretheren..should I pick on this company for a credit adjustment, b/c of the failure to live up to their "good as factory" guarantees, or refuse to pay altogether, claiming inferior quality of goods delivered not as promised, not when promised, and not in keeping with OEM standards of fit, finish and likely longevity? Anyone, anyone!? John-96 328 is cabrio ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 22:55:51 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Hart) Subject: [uuc] Rant#9? Premature tire wear? God, it hurts to be a fool in love with a cabrio! I just mounted, rotated and balanced my 235 40 17 Pilot Sports on my 96 328, and of course, the tire place tells and shows me how little of my rear tread remained...this after only about 5,000 miles of run time, much of it on highway straights, very little rubber burning from stops, maybe a bit more LSD induced wear from having a 3.23 LSD M3 diff. I still can't believe it...the fact is, this is not an ACURA NSX or something...this is the second set of tires (first were stock sport pack 16 Pilot Sport M & S_NOT! tires, that wore to wear indicators in rear, about 3,000 miles est. left on fronts). At present, my car feels like it is capable of running wild, i.e off the road without massive counter-steer corrections on unevenly crowned roads (yeah, you guessed it, the dreaded "tramliner" debate again). Please believe, I adjusted pressures both to ultimate high of 38 and more livable 34-36 rear, and even 39-38 rear, and this effect is unchanging, and massively disappointing! I just wondered: 1. Does the M3 with stepped/larger rear tires last longer than the 235 40 17 configuration, despite the fact that you can't rotate? Let's face it, rotation doesn't mean diddly squat when your rear tires are shot in 5,000 miles! 2. Is there anything else in my diff, or shocks..anything, that could explain such severe rear tire wear out so quick in mileage or time (owned 3 months_). My reputable tire dealer said he couldn't imagine what could cause such quick wear in the back, unless it is so torque heavy...is that what my 3.23 with 2.8 is amounting to...a tire shredder? Naturally, I notice a free CD and flyer on his desk that he hadn't even looked at yet for the new "Pilot Sport A and S (or in my case, ASS for keeping this car!). I swear he hadn't even seen it, and I asked to take a look at it, and sure enough, in Pirelli (French) marketing speak...something like, "Drive as hard as you like for longer life on hard as rock surfaces" due to new design and compounds, etc, etc..where was this product when I bought four new Pilots 2 minutes..eh, I mean 3 months ago?! So, finally, 3. if I am stupid enough to buy 2 more tires next spring, what of the new Pilots, or for that matter, the new Bridgestones? Does any brand have a longer lifespan than Pilots? As usual, I suspect it ain't the car, its just Mini-me...next spring, or whenever a cabrio shows up! The school was three days, with the Friday limited to the short track at the back of the full circuit. Dodging mobile chicanes (dump trucks and front-end loaders) was out of the question. The first time the instructors drove the new full circuit was the Saturday morning. We discovered that the paddock bend opposite the pits is now a real turn. A little agricultural activity was noted from some. There have been lots of changes, but the character of the old track remains, and it's safer and faster at the same time. I'll be back. Not really. The Green wire (known as 'tip' from that part of the old phone jack plugs used in manual telephone exchanges) is at 0 VDC, and the Red wire (known as 'ring') is at -48 VDC. > If the maker of the cord doesn't care about polarity you can fry something. Although most phones will still work with reversed polarity, not all will. Like anything else it would be possible to have wrong wiring in a phone cord, but I've not run across one so far. As I recall, the Sanden unit could be made to fit. I don't remember what if any fabrication was required for the bracket, but I don't recall the install being difficult at all. I'd check with some of the A/C specialists who advertise in the Roundel. Of course you do realize that if you switch to R-134 you will have to change other A/C system parts as well right? I'm sticking with R-12 as long as it holds its own! I ended up rebuilding my original compressor, and bought another compressor off a wrecked E28 M5 to have on hand as a backup.....which I still have, cause the original one is working just fine<g>.
