Well, it is my favorite M3 color! There isn't much info there on the E-Bay
listing.

1. Run the VIN through Carfax.
2. Ask to see maintenance records.
3. Have it checked out by a trusted mechanic, preferably one that wasn't
smoking Maui Wowie just before the inspection. Afterwards OK maybe, but
not before.

Are you also in Hawaii? If not, getting it home could be interesting!

Neil,

Nice write up and the emphasize, the higher the viscosity index the better
(under most circumstances).

Also, natural gas can have a high methane consistuent which is not necessarily
the result of Dino dung or vegetation decomposition. It is a naturally occuring
of the planet's core.

Gary et. al.

All this discussion about strut nut removal has me curious. The nut seems to be
under quite a bit of pressure from the springs, yet the thread depth doesn't see
that appreciable. The nuts ability to hold off the tension is remarkable given
its size.

I am not in Hawaii but the seller says he will ship it. He said I could
pick it up fr 27, which I think is a great deal. The thing that concerned
me is that the seats don't look like normal M3 seats, the headrests aren't
round like normal.

Hi Tim, I'm no expert, but I do recall that bleeding ABS-equipped brakes
without a pressure bleeder requires that you follow some strange procedure
like pumping the pedal 3,472,195 times or something. A better alternative
would be to use a pressure bleeder.

Just my .02 cents worth. (I saw your original post, but I thought someone
who actually knew the answer would respond.)

As a reminder, Gary's habit of adding Moly is also a very good one for keeping a

Subject: [uuc] <E36> front strut shaft bolt

I just completed this r/r a few weeks ago on my
1991 525i. Being it was my first time doing
this, I took the assembly out without loosening
the bolt first while it was installed in the car.
I was able to get a grip on the strut shaft with
a normal sized pipe wrench to get it from
spinning while I used a <ahem>Craftsman</ahem>
22mm socket to loosen the nut at the top.

The biggest problem I had was loosening the
O-ring in order to finally allow the strut
cartridge out. I ended up destroying it, but no
matter, a new one comes with my new awesome
Bilstien Sport struts!

I got a bit wiser on the remaining side and did
like one of the other digest-poster mentioned;
loosen the 22mm nut prior to doing anything, then
disassemble.

I would like to take this opportunity to mention
how amazingly crappy the front suspension was
while driving for 6 months with completely broken
struts. I know this sounds like I'm an idiot,
but I thought they (the struts) were performing
as designed albeit the harsh ride and bottoming
out on every little darn bump. It took one of
the to actually start grinding inside (metal on
metal) for me to realize that maybe this ain't
right. The car rides incredible now with my new
struts installed.

Cheers,
David Moore

Neil, just in case it is an electronic problem, use the Microsoft approach:
disconnect the battery, wait a few moments, then reconnect it. Often if
the problem is in the electronics, this will fix it. Then you don't need
to worry about the cause or lengthy troubleshooting procedures - unless the
disconnection doesn't work of course. Oh, and make sure you have your
radio code first...

Hi Steve, the cheapest/easiest thing to do is replace your main and fuel
pump relays. Failure of either relay could result in symptoms like you're
describing. On U.S. E30s these relays are located under a black cover on
the left side of the engine compartment in front of the fuse box. If
replacing these relays does not fix the problem, then it is most likely
something else.

I disassembled a passenger seat to use the horse hair pads and some other stuff
to rebuild the driver's seat in my car. There are no tears on the leather. I
didn't take apart the seat bottom, just the back, so the seat bottom could come
with all the power stuff, or just the cushion/frame. Naturally, the latter would
be easier to ship. So... seat bottom, old horse hair back pad from my gazillion
mile old car if you want it, seat back frame, armrest, head cushion... I don't
know... what do you need? I definitely want a few bucks for this guy. It's too
good to give away for free.

Those are M3 seats. The Sedan had different seats than the coupe. It also is
a car that had "Leather Credit"; indicated by the ///M stripes on the
headrests not on the seatbacks (I don't know the full details, but at some
point in production, there was a shortage of the leather normally used in
the M3s. The notable thing about "Leather Credit" cars is the location of
the ///M stripes and a $500 credit on the invoice of the car).

I had looked at the eBay aution a week or so ago. The car was originally
listed as a 1999 (there were no '99 sedans), and it didn't include a VIN.
Could have just been honest mistakes :-)
