I've sold the race car before changing all of the fluids this summer, so I
have some UNOPENED fluids FS:

1 liter ATE Super Blue
4 quarts 75W90 Redline Gear Oil (for limited-slip rear differential)
1 quart 70W80 Redline API GL-4 Gear Oil (Manual Transmission)
1 12 oz. bottle Water Wetter

(Don't ask me why I have 4 quarts of diff oil and 1 quart of MT...I don't
know!)

Everything for $35 plus shipping. (I really don't want to sell items
individually.)

Thanks,

Dave Hall

Homegrown? Did someone say homegrown? I digress...
We also have that here. Can you give me a micron range to use
and the amount you add during an oil change?
I guess you would mix that in a quart first?

PASSED! PASSED!

This is great! Thanks again to all who shared their knowledge. I attacked the
simplest task first, which is to change the spark plugs. I was thinking that
if that didn't work, then I'm considering a shop with proper equipment to check
it out. Well, after replacing the plug (I also changed my oil) I went back for
inspection and PASSED!

Here are my new readings;
Gas std. rdg. result
NOx 970 587 PASS
HC 128 111 PASS (i'm close to higher limit though)
CO% 0.71 0.46 PASS
CO2% 14.3
O2% 1.1
RPM 0

The next task is to replace some gaskets since most of the plugs's chamber has
a trace of oil. #5 has the worst, almost at the upper tip of the plug and I
think this might be causing the misfire. #1 is very good, no trace of oil at
all.

Again, thanks for all the help by proving your knowledge.

Two questions:

1. LubroMoly - the German oil that contains moly.. anyone used it?
They claim to manufacture it right around the corner from one of BMW's
plants..

2. Dow-Gear-Guard. A moly additive made to be used with transmissions..
(probably NOT good for transmissions that use synchronizers.. it may
make these too slippery.)

Quite popular with real BMW owners (beemers not bimmers..) for use in the
transmissions (motorcycle transmissions don't use synchronizers - they
are 'constant-mesh') and forks and rear-drives. The hook with Gear-Guard is
it specifically says on it - not for use with synthetic oils (suspicion
is the base oil in it isn't compatible with synthetics). Anyone considered
using it with engine oil?

Brad

Give AD a call at 508-756-6229 (Worcester MA.). If you give them your proper
paint code they will mix PPG brand paint, put it in a spray can (or a
regular can) and send it to you. They sent me some and it worked well.

I'd rip apart the rears, bleed them, and bleed

Just my opinion. Fix the "pull" first.

Back in the day when BMW TSBs were available on the Net, I read one that
talked to early factory (Alpine) burgler alarms having problems with false
alarms from the glass breakage detector, and mentioning that a fix was
available in newer units identified by a "Green Dot" (a sticker affixed to the
unit). I called my local dealer earlier this week inquiring about this, and
got no help.

I really would like to upgrade this thing so I can use it. Anybody know where
I can find one?

There are many grades mostly related to particle size.

particles are only a few microns."

I'm not sure what part of the MoS2 does the
lubrication, but is it possible to deliver the Mo
wrapped in carbon instead of sulphur? I'm never heard
of a molybdenum carbide, but I suppose it could be or
maybe it does not form a carbide.

I'm guessing, but you could have organic iron, for
example, which would like the iron in spinach. The
human body can process organic iron, but would
probably not do as well with a chip of an engine
block. Oh, and such organic carbon could indeed be
grown with manure as fertilizer!

Since the human body needs trace Mo as well, I'm sure
there are orgnanic versions of that as well, though
I'm pretty sure you could not put those in a G280.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: [uuc] headlight question

All this time poking about in the front of my car got me to wondering about
my headlights.

My car (87 325i) has those nice DOT mandated sealed beam units. I would like
to upgrade these to some much more sane E-code lights (they are even legal
in MA!) In looking around for information on these, it turns out someone
with a Jag found out that J.C. Somebody has E-code replacements for sealed
beam headlights. Of course, they aren't advertised as such, but nonetheless,
they take an H4 bulb and have the sharp cutoff on the left side. At ~$15
each I am willing to play.

The question has to do with the stock electrical system.

Stock sealed beam lights are 35w/35w for the outboard lights and 60w inboard.
It appears that each of the four headlights are served by their own 7.5 amp
fuse. Said 7.5 amp fuse is good for 90w or so. It also appears that the wire
size is the same for all headlights and fog lights.

The H4 lights start at 55w/60w and the H1 for the high beams start at 55w

It is obvious that the high beam replacement won't be a problem as the H1
bulb would actually be lower wattage than the sealed beam high beams.

It appears that I could easily run the 55w/60w H4 bulbs in the lows without
eating the fuse or wiring. Good.

What about the check relay?

If I recall right, the headlight check relays are part of the fuse box. I
don't want to burn them out by pulling too much current through them. Does
anyone know how much curent I can drag through those check relays without
cooking them?

In pure speculation mode, I suspect they should be good for at least 55-60w
as non-US cars seem to have been equiped with non-sealed beam lights with
9004 bulbs running at 55-60w. Unless they had a different part number for
the fuse box, the relays should be good for that much and I am safe.

Any input on this?
