The 15W-40 diesel oil is good stuff. It tends to have more EP additive (ZDDP) than modern car oils because the zinc can poison catalysts. The 15W indicates a good base stock that should have good protection. 20W-50 motorcycle oil is also a good choice. Mobil makes a synthetic Harley Davidson oil in 20W-50. Hmmm, the best I could do on turn signal help is to relate what happened to mine. All of a sudden my left turn signal would stop. Just wouldn't blink. Next morning, fine. The hazards always worked fine, even when the left trun signal didn't work. One evening I was outside the car with the hazards on (standing, not broken down) and everything else off and I noticed that the front side marker was blinking too. That was all I needed to know. Sure enough, if the parking lights were off, the blinker worked. Turn them on and the blinker stopped. There was the missing link. It turns out I had a bad ground on the trun signal bulb. It was getting its ground through the side marker light. If the light was on, no ground. Correcting the ground fixed everything. I believe all the 3 series up to 1988 had a transfer pump. I do also know that the 2.5L engine (and presumably the 2.7L as well) are real touchy about their ignition system. Go check that to be sure. - -- Joe - -- Joseph M.
