I've also heard that you could drill holes into the actual metal bumper every 6-10
inches, and fit the cover to those holes using the Zeus studs and fasteners.
Has anyone used these types of fasteners before? I guess they're common to small
aircraft and hot-rod/funny cars for quick access panel removal.
Any other ideas?

Ah, just remembering the good ole days (not that long ago) when the mighty
M3's were actively giving Porsche a run for their money....anyone else ever
get sick of watching 911's? I know they are great cars, but being a Bimwad
and not seeing a BMW contending for "anything" seems very unfair...lackluster
24 hours..ho hum!

I totally agree with Martin that the M Roadster is by far the most
fun car I've ever owned, both in the twisties and just driving around
town.

The two upgrades that were most important to me is a wind screen
behind the seats, and a smaller rear view mirror. Info on both is
available at http://www.mz3.net I got the stock BMW wind screen, but
the plexiglas aftermarket screen looks interesting. The stock screen
is easy to drop if you are driving at night with the top up...there
are two zippers that release it from between the seats.

The Gary Hansel mirror adapter is a great help. The smaller mirror
really improves visibility to the front right quarter if you are more
than 5' 8" tall.

Yeah, it makes me root for the Ferrari 360s (and the sole M3 that was 13th

The plexiglass does sound interesting, as the '00 that I was looking at,
it had that BMW one in the trunk, and it appeared that it would block the
nice looks of that rollbar system and such, kinda ruining the over all
beauty in the style of design.

I think I mentioned this before, but driving it reminded me of some of
the other open tops roadsters I've owned in the past, with 2 big
exceptions... You could feel the quailty, and it had a scarey fast
amount of HP/Torque. I got that shit eating grin on my face I couldn't
peel off when driving it. I think you guys know the look.

I'm about to replace my third buckle in the last 8 years of ownership,
but after my independent cleared the codes the warning light has not
returned. Should I save the $97 and wait for another warning? In other
words, is this a common intermittent code or sign of a true failure?

Thanks,

Ken

Subject: [uuc] ETK brake parts lookup

E28 535iS (1987)

Brake lining warning light started flickering during a
250-mile trip this weekend. Should it flicker or just
"come on" and stay on? I thought that once the wire was
tripped, that's that and the dummy light stays on.

Brakes were replaced about 85k ago, according to the
records I got from the PO. I'm not sure if he used the
stock brakes or not, so could someone look up these part
numbers and let me know what they're from? From the order
receipt:

34-11-1-163-148 Brake Rotor (2)
34-21-1-163-140 Brake Disc (2)

34-21-1-157-925 Brake Pad Set

Then it appears he returned the pads and ordered from
Eurasian in CA:
D501D
D502D Brake pads (which aren't BMW part nos. so I doubt
this is helpful).

If you can identify what brakes are on the car that'd be
great!

Thanks much,
tammer farid

Ummm.. my '99 M-Coupe had (from memory) ASC, or was it some other
3 letter thingie.. applied the brakes and throttled the engine. I
think this was a running change for '99..

And if anyone wants one for lots less - I have a spare one laying
around gathering dust. Never been used, dunno if it still works,
but best offer takes it. It is the earlier (bigger) one..

Agreed.. I don't think aside from noise or appearance an aftermarket
does much, I doubt if it is gonna give more power.

The other mods mentioned are probably popular 'cause butt-dyno's
make people think they have more power - but the power in either
the '99 or '00 is gonna be adequate for any normal person's
needs. Might go faster due to lightened wallet..

Bora,

Dot 3 or Dot 4 brake fluid is GLYCOL based, and not alcohol based fluid.
Dot 5 is silicone based.
Dot 5.1 is Synthetic based and NOT silicone, and is fully compatible with
ABS braking systems.
Brake system flushing can be done with denatured alcohol, but complete
flushing requires complete disassembly. The problem is the interface
between Glycol based fluid and Dot 5, therefore all of the Dot 5 must be
removed.
Dot 5 should never be used in any BMW or any vehicle that contains natural
rubber brake seals.

Peake is now selling a tool that resets the SRS light (in addition to
the other usual Peake tool functions) for $199. If I were you, I'd buy
the tool and forget about replacing the buckle again and again. It's
not a mechanical failure, just an electrical one. And since the light
didn't reappear, how do you really know that it's the buckle and not
just some bad wiring elsewhere?
