I've got a line on a suitable donor vehicle to get an engine and tranny out of for my '67 Galaxie. Problem is I'm in Virginia and the truck is in San Diego, CA. If someone out there might be able to look at it please email me soon. I want to get a vehicle and get started moving stuff over so I can drive the Gal this summer. We spec out the springs to get all of the understeer out and you can choose ride quality. If you already have the 325 F struts, then RD bars are probably the way to go for a very stiff front bar. By the way, no one says you have to install the bigger rear just b/c you have it. Stiffer front and stock rear works well too.... Based on stock springs, you get this (F/R distribution of total stiffness) M3 (22.5/19) Stock (24/18) Front stiffness 44% 55% Rear Stiffness 56% 45% More rear stiffness means more weight transfer to the rear, thus exceeding the grip of the rear tires sooner for a given lateral load. Take these for what they are worth...they are just spring stiffness calcs, from any decent suspension book. Changing the front bar to 22.5 made a noticable difference in the handling of my car. I can pretty easily get power-on oversteer now, whereas before, the front just pushed. I had tried a much bigger bar in the front (an adjustable 27 mm) hoping for a flatter turning car and thus camber behavior, but the amount of weight transfer to the front was too much. The car is just plain faster with oversteer and rolling around than flat and pushing. This is for autocross mind you. I think for the track, I would want a car with a little understeer rather than power on oversteer. But autocross is closer to street driving :) Matt Tremmel 1994 325is >Feel free to offer suggestions for my particular setup. It's the difference between OE and OEM. OEM stuff can be crap, a second, lesser quality, cheaper line from the same manufacturer. It's a standard way of supplying the aftermarket. OE means same as the factory buys. Matrix list is a BMW recommended retail price PLUS X%. It's called Matrix, because the increase is not across the board. For example, a 3 cent screw will have a matrix increase of 300% or so. A $12,000 engine will have a matrix increase of, maybe, 5%. Back to the brakes, and you're lack of using them...... With Hawk Blues, Kathy was removing at least FOUR millimeters of rotor thickness in 3 event weekends. >From factory rotors. Aftermarket Zimmermans (Brembo only makes cross drilled for this application and we're not allowed to use them) last less than 2 events unless cryo'd. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Kelley" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > So who actually manufactures the "factor" rotors you get from the dealer. I thought it "was" Brembo? ATE? > And what is that "Matrix" list? I have noticed that on some parts, my local dealer quotes a lot higher than the undiscounted price I've been quoted from some other dealers! I've often wondered if they were working from the same price list! > FWIW, I ran around 15 driver's school weekends last year on the "cheap out" Brembo rotors without any problem. I just replaced the fronts although they still had life and I'm still using the rears. No problems at all! So I wonder if the "factory" rotors are really any better! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 19:25:57 -0500 From: "Pat Donahue" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] You GOTTA see this Rob hooks a large one...
