I don't know what the limit is. I can tell you than on my E30, I'm using
196/65 on the rear and 195/60 on the front (using up tires I had laying
around) and everything works.

ABS is one thing, but mismatched sizes on the rear will fry the diff from what I
remember.

Pingger,
Time to start shopping for a new $300 E36 HVAC controller?
Normally it's a question of when, not if. Sounds like your time has come.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Don't say that, Alex! Are you sure? I just forked out $500 for a
new water pump, resistor pack and thermostat! That hurts.

The radio just lost it's display also, maybe I need a new one too, eh? Got to break
the piggy bank now. There goes the school this weekend at Buttonwillow. Be wrenching
this weekend instead. Oh well. 122K, I guess that's expected.

Thanks.

Subject: [uuc] 4-point harness install on 4-door E36 cars

Folks,
I have a friend who is trying to install a 4-point Schroth harness in a 4
door E36 car. I did not have any problems doing similar installs on my E30
and E36 2-doors, but we've already run into the following problems with
his car:
1. the 17mm bolts holding the front seat in place are so close to the
power seat rails to squeeze in a socket. Has anyone identified an
especially thin wall socket that fits?
2. the rear outboard latch attachment points are obscured by a plastic
that extends from the bottom of the rear doors up to the rear back
cushion. There are no visible screws or bolts holding it in place. Any
tricks to removing it other than brute force pulling up?
3. any other hidden gems in the 4-door back seat before we get access to
the outboard seat belt anchor points?

TIA,
alex f

Hell no, I haven't even seen your car!
But if my HVAC was blowing air after I had turned it off, I would say it's
either possessed or broken ;-)

Don't tell me, they did not use any lube?

Look at this as an opportunity to upgrade!

I just received my April Roundel, and there's no DVD of the new films from "The Hire"
series. Didn't last month's issue have an ad saying that the DVD would be included
with this month's issue? I'm trying to figure out if mine got lost somehow, or if
nobody got one.

Also, thanks to all who replied to my question about the loose shift knob.

Subject: [uuc] Potential Dex-Cool Class-Action Suit

Considering the recent discussion of a possible link between coolant PH
and plastic radiator neck failure I thought folks might be interested in
the following:
http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_action/dexcool.html

On the index page the heading is this:
GMC <http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_action/dexcool.html> (dexcool
antifreeze corrodes heating system)

It seems to me the heading is intentionally misleading - it suggests
that Dex-Cool *causes* damage. When you look at the detail the truth is
revealed: If you believe the marketing that Dex-Cool protects for
100,000 miles you'll be disappointed. It loses it's anti-corrosion
properties before that and the cooling system corrodes. Getting from
:"Doesn't actually protect for as long as advertised" to "corrodes
heating system" is quite a stretch.

Does anyone happen to know if 100K miles is the first coolant change on
GM's maintenance schedule for vehicles with a factory fill of Dex-Cool?
I find that hard to imagine.

Brian Daley
94 325ic (with Dex-Cool that's gonna get changed long before 100K miles)

All,
My 95 M3 is giving off a very high-pitched whistling sound when moving.
It does not vary with speed. It does go away when I turn, and sometimes for
a while afterward.
This is a track car, original diff, 88k miles. I'm guessing limited slip.
Comments?

Really, were you one of the guys that drew the M16's on me and my
cousin and pulled us out of the boat just because I ran over one of
your nuclear subs?LOL Seriously, they were doing overhauls on a group
of subs, I have always been fascinated with them, they were parked
in the river with just the sails poking out the water. I pulled in
close to take a look and ran over one of them, they weren't that
deep. They were also not marked off. I hit the sub and all of a
sudden a bunch of guys were popping out of the subs and the surrounding
area with automatic weapons and pulled us out the boat. Scared the shit
out of us. After it was all said and done they didn't even offer us a
tour! They let us go once they were convinced we weren't commies or
terrorists. Go Navy!

Jacob

Oh, my cousins actually live in Moss Point. I was just trying to
build them up a notch saying they lived in Pascagoula. Grandma
lived there.

Subject: [uuc] E36: questions about aux air pump and adjustable shocks

Started my 1998 328i this AM and got quite a whining or cycling high pitched
noise coming from (what would seem) the glove box. After a quick look under
the hood it seems to be coming from the aux air just on the other side of
the firewall. All ventilation was off. The noise started today and (only)
did it twice when the car was cold. It also went away after a restart after
the car warmed up a little. Could this have anything to do with my recent
M3 factory muffler swap? I'm planning a road trip to Portland OR from
Seattle this weekend and hope to take this car. Should I worry about this
issue or will it only have mixture problems at startup? Any comments
appreciated...

I am thinking of going to aftermarket shocks and was thinking about the
adjustable Konis. I don't think I want to lower my car much more than it is
now with the sport suspension. Are the Konis that easy to adjust without
tools or jacking up the car? Are there notches in the adjustment wheel or
is it free turning for finer tuning? Any pros and/or cons dealing with
these shocks (or others) would be appreciated. I plan on replacing the rear
shock mounts with E46 ones while this is done. Any other items I should add
to the work list if I go this route? The car has 67K on the clock. Also,
do the front Konis's use the factory shock mounts so I can continue to use
my strut bar that currently uses the factory mount bolt pattern? What Koni
resellers would you recommend?

TIA,

Scott
