The wheels on the 330iPP on the cover of the
Roundel are completely different than the wheels
on the press release photos of a few months ago.
BMW has said these wheels are unique to the
performance package. Anyone know which ones
are slated for production? I much prefer the
ones used on the cover of the Roundel.

Anyone see a PP car yet? Drive one?

Tomorrow, I will be spending a little quality time under the ol E30. I am
dropping the oil pan to check for sludge, slime, small children and whatever
else has accumulated at the bottom of the pan after 16 years of service (and
replace the oozy pan gasket). My hope is that I will find a clogged oil pump
and that will explain my lack of oil to the top of the engine.

Since I will have the pan off, what else should I check, clean, inspect, or
tinker with? Is there any easy way to check the condition of the bearings
while I am down there?

Crank sensor is on the left side of the block, down by the oil pan at the
rear. It reads a tone ring that is mounted behind the last rod journal.

Hi Don,

At $8K for a 50K Touring, who cares what can go wrong.......

If your friend doesn't buy it, give me the sellers number, I'll take it in a
heartbeat. Gotta put that 850CSi drivetrain in something....

Huh? You're losing me here.

How else can you select different spring rates for your car and or
crank up negative camber on the front of the car? My Eibachs (stock
sized springs) were rubbing the inside of the strut towers from the
negative camber. I wanted more and the only way to accomplish this is
to go to 2.5" springs up front with a coilover or coilover conversion.

If you feel this is not a necessity (to a certain point I agree) you
need to drive a car properly setup against one with "sport" springs.
You can always punt and buy an E36 (ahem, cough)<g> but I'm an E30 fan
and this is one way to make the car handle better/go faster w/o getting
rid of it.

Yes Alex I carry a box of shims and a bucket depressor so I can swap
back and forth.

Do I get to pick? ;-)

OK no more arguing from me, yeah adjustable suspensions suck, stock
crap rules.

I owned a '75 530i,VIN5000362, & as I recall it's hood was shaped like the

guess that's what you call it) & the fuel system was sort of high. -Bob

Those silly engineers adding bumpstops where they don't belong. :-)

>Since Koni shocks use a low pressure design, no special bench
>press skills are needed to compress them again the short distance

Not to argue too much but Koni makes several types of dampers. Yes
there are the low pressure like yours but if you asked me what the
rears are in my car were I'd tell you they're hydraulic just like the
fronts. BTW these are also a pain because they need to be compressed
to engage the adjustment but since all you're pusing is oil then you
don't need to have herculian strength.

>Shock tuning is only the fine edge after
>you have both the basic suspension and your driving skills sorted out.

Yes but if you read the list you'll notice *lots* of folks on this list
have a lot of experience on the track. That's why these subjects pop
up quite often. I'm probably one of the newbies as this will only be
my seventh year of autoxing and taking a BMW on the track. After a
while even the sport packages from H&R, Eibach, etc become boring.

I believe Satch says in the article that he had 17" winter Conti Contacts
put on the PeePee because he was doing the test drive in December. He also
said that he promised BMW to have the stock 18"ers put back on for the cover
shoot. I think he lied to BMW about the cover shoot part.

Why don't you guys just buy the externally adjustable Koni's and be done
with it?

I change Kathy's shock settings for every track, in about 8 minutes total,
for all four shocks, rebound and compression.

The design for both the front and back cupholders on this car is abyssmal! Both of
ours are broken and not only are they expensive to repair, the new ones aren't any
better. Have your friend go to ultimatecupholders.com and check out the stainless
steel model. We put one in our 740il and my wife loves it.

Yes. The phone number for Koala Motorsports.

Call Brett and make an appointment to have a
5-speed (6-speed ?!?!) manual transmission installed
very soon after purchase. Probably wouldn't hurt
to ask if he still has that V-12 6-speed from the
telephone-pole-850CSI.

Man, that would be a rocketship.

i just bought a 99 suburban for towing. it only had 39k miles on it.
brakes felt horrible. foot almost to the floor before anything happened. i
suspected i knew what the problem was, but it was under warranty, so it took
it in immediately to a gm dealer. the "very experienced service manager"
test drove it and said that was normal suburban braking. i took it back
home and popped the brake fluid reservoir cap. the fluid was black with
little things floating in it. and i mean black, deep, dark black. being
the "flush brake system and check brake parts before every race" guy that i
am, i dug right into the project. two quarts of brake fluid, some caliper
grease, and some rear shoe adjusting later....brakes worked fine! well,
fine for a last gen 'burban...;-) gm designs crappy brake systems and that
senior tech is an idiot for not even being able to diagnose basic brake
system problems. but i guess if gm specs brake fluid is a "lifetime fluid",
the tech would have no experience with the symptoms of dirty, moisture and
air laden brake fluid. "they all do that, it's normal".
i knew there was a reason i do all my own brake work....
