I am dropping the oil pan to check for sludge, slime, small children and whatever else has accumulated at the bottom of the pan after 16 years of service (and replace the oozy pan gasket). My hope is that I will find a clogged oil pump and that will explain my lack of oil to the top of the engine. Since I will have the pan off, what else should I check, clean, inspect, or tinker with? Is there any easy way to check the condition of the bearings while I am down there? - -- Joe, misses his car... 1 week is too long without a BMW. - -- Joseph M. Huh? You're losing me here. How else can you select different spring rates for your car and or crank up negative camber on the front of the car? My Eibachs (stock sized springs) were rubbing the inside of the strut towers from the negative camber. I wanted more and the only way to accomplish this is to go to 2.5" springs up front with a coilover or coilover conversion. If you feel this is not a necessity (to a certain point I agree) you need to drive a car properly setup against one with "sport" springs. You can always punt and buy an E36 (ahem, cough)<g> but I'm an E30 fan and this is one way to make the car handle better/go faster w/o getting rid of it. >Let me guess - you adjust your S14 valves before each track event to >get the last HP out of that four banger. Yes Alex I carry a box of shims and a bucket depressor so I can swap back and forth. >I'm in the "either too lazy, too bored or too stupid to re-adjust his >suspension every other weekend" camp. Do I get to pick? ;-) OK no more arguing from me, yeah adjustable suspensions suck, stock crap rules. Yes there are the low pressure like yours but if you asked me what the rears are in my car were I'd tell you they're hydraulic just like the fronts. BTW these are also a pain because they need to be compressed to engage the adjustment but since all you're pusing is oil then you don't need to have herculian strength. >Shock tuning is only the fine edge after >you have both the basic suspension and your driving skills sorted out. Yes but if you read the list you'll notice *lots* of folks on this list have a lot of experience on the track. That's why these subjects pop up quite often. I'm probably one of the newbies as this will only be my seventh year of autoxing and taking a BMW on the track. After a while even the sport packages from H&R, Eibach, etc become boring. >'jk Carlos 91 M3 88 iS __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I believe Satch says in the article that he had 17" winter Conti Contacts put on the PeePee because he was doing the test drive in December. He also said that he promised BMW to have the stock 18"ers put back on for the cover shoot. I think he lied to BMW about the cover shoot part. Yes. The phone number for Koala Motorsports. Call Brett and make an appointment to have a 5-speed (6-speed ?!?!) manual transmission installed very soon after purchase. Probably wouldn't hurt to ask if he still has that V-12 6-speed from the telephone-pole-850CSI. "they all do that, it's normal". i knew there was a reason i do all my own brake work.... marshall 88 325is ITS race car 99 K2500 'burban tow vehicle w/454 both get the same mpg...9, but one stops a whole lot better!. ------------------------------ End of [uucdigest] V3 #6284 *************************** | | In memory of Michel Potheau - friend, enthusiast, founder of the BMW CCA. |________________________________________ | Please visit these UUC-approved BMW parts vendors/service providers: | (listed alphabetically) | | Autoscope-Motorsports - http://www.autoscope-motorsports.com | |==================================================== | | Koala MotorSport .
