Subject: RE: [uuc] 87 325i swap to 325e

When I mentioned a later model iC being a 5-figure car
if in good condition, this was based on the market
about a year or two ago. . . before everything took a
HUGE plunge.

On a similar note, I know of plenty nice '87 or '88
535iS cars that sold for $8k - $10k easy. This is e28
M5 territory!

Now? The iC and the 535iS are both taking hits.
Everyone's getting laid off and/or losing their
retirement funds in the securities markets. They have
to sell their toys to provide enough cash to get by
until the job and stock markets heat back up. That,
or they have to sell their nice daily drivers and step
down to something cheaper and easier/quicker to
maintain.

Maybe now those $10k - $12k '91 - '93 325iCs that I
saw on Autotrader and eBay are selling for about 75%
of that. . . or less. It's definitely happening with
the 535's. I've seen too many really, really nice e28
535i/iS cars selling for $3k - $6k that SHOULD be
getting at least $7k.

Subject: [uuc] <E28> it's for sale

To all,

I just don't think I have the patience, space, or time to strip, though
that will likely net me a lot more money.

Send me some offers. On the car or on parts.
If there are a lot of local E28 parts needy people, I may pull parts and
let others cart it away.

Note that the car is in Marshfield, MA 02050 and is fully drivable.
Actually it has never failed to start in the three years we have owned
it.100 miles a day to commute.

It has a rusted out exhaust and some undercarriage rust, thus the sale.

1986 E28 528e
230k
Bronzit Beige
No oil usage.
4Hp22 trans in excellent cond. (yes really)
Black leather interior (fantastic condition, redyed it w/ Surflex)
3rd owner.
Email *any* questions.

*** BTW we are looking for an E34 Touring to replace it.***

Matt,

Sorry to hear you decided to get rid of it. It's for
the best, though. I'll forward your post to some e28
groups I'm on.

By the way, that's a VERY nice iX!!!

Or at least some expert advice ....
I am refurbing a 1986 325e as a cheap run-about 'ole reliable' . In the
original radio-hole I found a JVC CD receiver , Model No. KD-SX650 ,
Serial number 145528S7 (that's an "S" in S7 ) .Problem is , the
removeable face has been permanently 'removed' ..so it aint no moa ' . I
seriously doubt that JVC wants anything to do with it so ...
Question I have ....Is there a 'car-radio-holics' website or some other
place out there where I might find another face ? Or someone who can
check it out for being in working condition etc ?.
Alternative ..I am looking for a cheap tune-maker .....doesnt have to be
ultra-hi-fi etc just work and able to twirl a CD now and then ...
This is to be a CHEAP car ...I already have speakers , amps and lots of
wire ...

Long commute in between .

We got Kelly's 98 323is for $13, although with 90k. The 323 is a good car,
the only problem is that the power is simply adequate. For the money, I'd
rather consider a 328is or E36 M3. You should be able to aquire a 97 or 98
M3, even a crew cab, for $20-25.

The only problem I would see with getting an E36 M3 is that your wife might
not ever get to drive it.....

Scott:

I am not a father, though I've probably babysat more
kids than you, but in my experience it is safer to
introduce the manual transmission at the outset. I
have friends who have tried the phased approach and
their daughters have ended up sticking with the
autobox. The only _real_ argument for manual is that
you may need to drive one one day if someone is drunk,
etc., but, frankly, in that case you should probably
spring for a cab.

BTW, I've taught a number of people how to drive
("Teaching if the fine art of imparting knowledge w/o
actually posessing it." G B Shaw) and have _always_
done it in a manual transmission car. If they brought
an autobox, I dropped the student with the same speed
(no pun intended) that I would a chem student who came
to me with ingredients to make drugs with. The
advantages of being a teacher for free. I learnt this
attitude from my Mom, who did the same most of her
life to get her way with principals when she taught
her classes!

Neil Deshpande - lucking my teacher (Dad) _could_
actually drive!

I've decided that the perfect car for my daughter to
learn how to drive is an E30 with an automatic transmission.

Subject: [uuc] <E34> Touring Information?

Gruppe:

I am contemplating the purchase of an E34 525i
Touring. Could someone please point me in the
direction of model year difference, gotchas, etc? Any
electrical faults that got fixed later, side skirting,
wider kidneys, interior options, load levelling which
years, etc., etc.

Any comments on pricing would be welcome. I am
looking for something cosmetically nice in the sub-10k
range, with 8k being preferred. Mechanicals are not
as much of an issue, but should be consistent with age
and not abused. Mileage should be around 125k or so,
but less is better of course.

Thanks in advance.
