When I was involved in a serious Supersprint competition a couple of years ago with "The Limo", aka a 1989 E34 535i, we used to have practice in the morning and competition in the afternoon. At lunchtime, I'd sneak off to my pit and unbolt the viscous fan. Doesn't sound like much but it gave me enough extra horsepower to cut between .2 and .5 seconds per lap - which confused the hell out of the opposition (especially the P car guys) as they could see I was driving the car in a similar fashion in both sessions (ie HARD). By the way, the brake setup I used on The Limo was 750i front rotors/calipers, stock rears running Pagid Premium Road pads all round. That plus a lot of suspension work and a Jim C chip helped me win my class in the series against the likes of E36 325's older Prosche 911's and a Ferrari Mondial............. Anyone else care to share similar anecdotal stories on the "black arts" of gaining the racers edge? These sorts of stories amazing for us plodding low tech non-racer types. It requires a BMW tool to unzip and replace. Brett A. might have one for rent. I think the part is pretty pricey too. Let me know how you make out - mine's starting to crack at the "fold" right in the middle of the window. It's beyond me why it took BMW until the E46 to put in a glass rear window. Ford (for one) has been doing it since the 80's in the Mustang at less than half the price of the 3-series at the time. A while back I posted about a mismatch between a DME and chip. Thank you to those that confirmed that I indeed had a mismatch. The DME out of my 87 325is is a 261-200-153. The chip is for a 173. After some research it seems that the 153 had an architectural problem....and that what I should really do is get a different DME. From what I can tell I need something from 88-91 E30 (except NOT from an IX) that ends in 173. I am about to start checking around at recyclers....anyone have a DME that matches this that they want to sell? Any recommendations on places to call? Anything in that range/model year timeframe that I should avoid like the IX? Thanks Drew - --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
