Should be a piece of cake for an E39 -- at least for Brett. He converted my
E34 530iT to a 4.0l/6-speed drivetrain, so a "simple" trans swap should be
relatively easy. The easiest/cheapest way is to buy a wrecked donor car to get
the trans, driveshaft, pedal box, console, etc. You can sell off the rest of
the parts of the donor car to offset the conversion costs.

I had a set of Conti Sport Contacts on my M5 and just replaced them with
Bridgestone S-03's. I was expecting the S-03s to have quick response, etc.
but I am disappointed. They are good, but a small step down from the
Contis. I was very impressed with the Contis. They held up well even in
severe track use.

My wife's 525iT has SP Sport 5000 but in 16 inch asymmetric size (E38
basketweaves). They are a very nice tire overall. Great wet traction and
very good handling.

Canadian tire pressures are lower because they are not set for the maximum
speed and load as US pressures are. I run 40 psi all around regardless, in
both E34s. 29/33 is way soft for my taste.

Trans, flywheel, clutch, pedals, clutch hydraulics, driveshaft, rear axle
gear, wiring and reprogramming. Plus some stuff I forgot.

A walk in the park for Brett.

Chip and Ernie at Autobahn automotive in Natick, MA has just done this exact change
for Garth Brenard with his (Dinan) 530 automatic
which then had the 4.0 dropped in and then just had the 6-speed added.

Give them a ring at (508) 647-1500

Hi All,

With Project X visions in my mind I am wondering what it would take to drop
a 6-speed tranny from a 540-6 into the 540 Wagon with the Auto? Brett or
anyone else have any thoughts on this?

TIA

John, you didn't mention how much snow you get (yes, I know you're in
Canada) or if you even drive this car in the snow. Also, how much rain do
you get? But, in addition to the tires you mention, you might also
consider the Firestone SZ50s. I hear they're real good in the rain, and
otherwise a pretty decent tire.

I've never heard anything good about Continentals, other than they're round
and black. Well, I hear they're pretty high quality tires too, for round
black tires.

BTW, I'm assuming this would be in the stardard 225/60-15 size. If you're
on larger diameter wheels and lower profile tires, you have more options.

Hi Folks:

Sorry for the BW, but just recently acquired a '97 M3, and really need to
find good local shop that knows what they are doing and are honest and up
front.

Preferably Miami area, but Ft. Lauderdale will work.

Thanks

Argh. A rear seat belt retractor on the wife's 2000 E-39 wagon is stuck. I
pulled the belt all the way out to install a child seat, but now it won't
retract at all. Doh.

1. What's the fix, aside from disassemblying the darn thing?
2. How do I prevent it from happening again?

TIA,

Subject: [uuc] <E30> Insrument Cluster Removed

Hi All,
With encouragement from several listers I successfully removed my
cluster without pulling the wheel. Went much better than I thought.
Unfortunately the cluster lights are still possessed. E-Brake, Brake
Fluid, and Battery Lights are always, if somewhat dimly, lit.
I loosened and re-tightened the grounding nuts on the back of the
cluster and gave it a good inspection.

Any ideas? Could it be the SI batteries going bad? Every instrument work
fine.

TIA,

he's not in Canada, he's in Grand Rapids MICHIGAN. where do you guys get
Canada out of that :-P

he does get lots of lake-effect snow tho so I'm sure he has snows for the winter

months.

I like the S-03's on my wife's Mini, but that's not exactly the same situation
as a ~4k lbs E34. the SP5000's are quite nice as well, Amy ran them on her
VR6 GTI & my stepmother has liked them on her Passat...

This happened to my front passenger belt in my E36. My fix was to buy a new
belt, remove the B pillar trim from the car, discover that the belt was
miraculously working again all of a sudden, and put a $60 belt on the shelf.

Anybody need an E36 passenger belt?
