An interval would be either shorter or longer, not faster.

Hah! Call that a water pump failure????

I saw one from a 95 M3 last week where the only thing left of the impeller
was a tiny corroded green nub that looked like a Leprechaun dick.

What is the function of the Throttle Position Switch (Sensor?)?

The motor seems to bog when accelerating from a stop and the Bentley test of the
TPS shows an open at WOT rather than the low or zero resistance indicated by
Bentley. The idle position does show a closed contact with a low resistance but
not the WOT.

Idle is as stable as it can be on an M30 motor (E23) with the L Jetronic.

If it's not the TPS it's probably time for a valve adjustment.

First thing I'd look at would be the brake fluid reservoir - to make
sure the fluid level hasn't gone below the point where the clutch
takes its fluid. (Though I'm not 100% sure that would be a problem
except when bleeding the clutch)

Apart from that, "what Brett said."

My Top Down Oil changer (bought from BMP) is tiring out after 7 years of service. I'm
looking into
replacements. Griots unit looks nice, but holds less than 6 qts, which makes it
pretty useless to
me. I tried a cheap drill operated pump from a marine supply shop that didn't work
well at all. Has
anyone else come up with different solutions? (Short of messing with drain plugs).

Yeah, I know...I should drain my engine oil properly. I'll cut into my motor's life
expectancy the
way I've been doing it.

A bunch of folks down by me have purchased the MightyVac Fluid
Extractor Plus model from The Tool Warehouse. It holds a large
8.8 liters and can both extract and dispense fluids and costs
less than $60.

I plan on building my own based on these instructions:

http://tinyurl.com/ib7y

It's a little different than the suction method. This style lets it run up
the dipshit, err, dipstick hole all by itself. Ston will help me put it
together.

The full throttle switch tells the Motronic you are at full throttle. This
ignores the EGO and AFM and fuels according to rpm only.

Classic Ston thinking...I went looking for his website before and couldn't find it.

I miss the resources that used to be on the earlier digests...Conforti, Buckland,
Collie, Rygar...

So many great ideas.

I got a postcard from Ston the other day!

It was a little hard to read, it was written in Blossa Glogg and I think he
ran out halfway through. There was a small diagram of a new device, I think
it showed either a monkey or a small child deployed from the glove
compartment, working a device that looked like iDrive.

Does the reference sensor on the L-Jetronic read all of the teeth on the ring
gear of the transmission or just a plug that's fitted into the ring?

I'm wondering if an accelleration bog is related to a grinding noise at startup.
The starter motor was replaced but the sound is still evident like there is poor
mesh of the starter gear with the ring gear. If the teeth on the ring gear are
in bad shape I would imagine the sensor would get a poor signal quality and this
would account for the bog.

One reads all the teeth, the other reads a pin in the flywheel. Ignition
advance is calculated by counting teeth.

Can anyone suggest a reliable independent shop north of Boston, MA, USA
where I can get my wife's 1995 Infiniti I30 A/C serviced. I suspect it
just needs a recharge - it seems to work but isn't very cold. As you
might expect, dealer rate$ are a bit high...

Thanks.

MA, USA

I have an engine stand (Taiwanese manufacture) purchase ~20 years
ago when I planned a 2002 restoration. I bought this particular one
because a friend had the identical model in his basement, with a
2002 motor on it undergoing a rebuild.

The stand is still its original sealed box, sitting in my garage
where it's been holding down the floor for quite some time. The
2002 is long gone, and the house is now sold, so this stand is
available FREE to anyone who wants to come and get it.

Located in Reading, MA, USA about 10 miles due north of Boston.

Please contact me by email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you're
interested. First-come, first-served.

Enforcement of state tint laws varies by state and/or area. The reason my
friend and I gave up the tint business was due to an increase in enforcement
in our area (perhaps the entire state) as well as a reduction in the
allowable darkness of tint under NH law.

As far as federal regulations go, I was suggesting that if they existed they
must never be enforced, given what I've seen on southern cars on regular
basis. Gary has pointed out that the fact is that there may be federal
regulations, but they only apply to auto manufacturers not aftermarket
tinters and individuals.
