I had a 2800CS with a disconnected master cylinder, a non-functional parking brake, and a busy-body apartment manager named Sally who walked around and made sure vehicles didn't stay in the same parking space for more than a week at a time. Never mind that cosmetically at any rate, the CS looked better than 90% of the "running" cars in the parking lots, but once a week I'd get a notice, and have to do a late-night, no-brakes car moving maneuver from one parking lot to another. The VERY hilly area made for some pretty exciting events, with my wife begrudgingly directing traffic at some of the blind, bottom of the hill intersections. In hindsight, it might have been easier to just fix the brakes. Thanks for the garage offer though. I might just take you up on it sometime. - -Josh - -----Original Message----- From: Robinson, Lee [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 10:43 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [uuc] Re: Central Locking Question Yea, I know your pain. I'm one of those tennants who's really a neighbor pleaser. Left my old POS (even REALLY looks like a POS) Saab on jackstands outside for, like 4 days, with the passenger side front wheel off. Of course, it wasn't my fault--it didn't run. I've only been in my new apartment for 4 weeks & my garage floor is pretty stained. I'm getting ready to go back to Ohio for some work, but if you need to do some work, drop me a line. If I'm in town you can use my garage--it's pretty big & I have a decent set of tools. I'm in Dunwoody. Additionally, there's a Taco Mac across the street, so good beer & hot wings are in sufficient supply...... Sorry for the repeated message if that's the case. How do I determine if my 1990 E34 525iA has a power steering filter? The Bentley is does not appear to cover the subject. In reviewing the P/S reservoir, it is not clear how the filter would be removed/installed into the reservoir (if it belongs there at all). You must replace the entire reservoir. If you have the metal canister, it has a circlip holding in the wire basket. After that is removed, the filter can be accessed. Or they will slip and bad things can happen. Unless you have special jack adaptor in the shape of the plastick puck. I would recommend you to place floor jacks under the frame if you are going to do any work down there. on 8/17/03 11:43 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Is it possible to jack my 2003 325i on the 4 plastic jack points located on > the sills or will they collapse? Here's an update. First, I forgot to report that the car is Laguna green. From years of listening to Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers (a.k.a. Tom and Ray Magliozzi) on Car Talk, I realize how important this can be in diagnosing a problem. Second, I had reported that the noise was intermittant but only seemed to happen when the AC was on. Well, it is still intermittant, but through experimentation and patience, not to mention that this is pretty much the only car our family drove all weekend, I can now tell you that it happens at all times: Lights on or off AC or or off HVAC fan on or off It also occurred to me that the noise is not unlike that of a relay engaging and disengaging, but with the arcing thrown in for effect. I still haven't had time to look under the dash for the source, so hopefully the car won't burn to the ground before I find the time. Anyway, for those of you who were losing sleep trying to figure out how to help me, please don't panic. I'll find it eventually. I use a small wood block (about 1"x1"x2") that fits inside the rectangular jack points when jacking up the car with a floor jack. To put the car in jack stands... I cut the top of my jack stands so that they fit inside the square jack points. I think the cross section dimmensions are 1"x2". I replaced the round jack bases on my E36 M3 with the rectangular E46 style, so I can now use the same procedure in both cars. In limp home mode, which cylinders run normal and which cylinders are shut off? 3. The OBD computer is registering "misses" in cylinders 5,6,7,8, (bank 2 only) - could this be cause by the engine going into limp mode? Or does it do it when standing still? Or only during left hand turns, etc.... Or how about when it's engine off/key on and/or engine off/key off? I kinda have the feeling that it's not actually electrical arcing, but something that sounds like arcing. I say that because I don't think it's really possible to hear arcing unless you got a coil and primary wire running inside the cabin. But maybe you should keep a fire extinguisher in the car. ;) Mike - --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Last week I reported hearing an electrial arcing > type noise coming from > under the left side of the dash on our recently > acquired 1991 E30 325iA. > Here's an update. > > First, I forgot to report that the car is Laguna > green.
