I guess you missed what Marco said - with a BMW CCA membership a non-BMW is
welcome.

It's been a while since I've been to a GGC Car Control Clinic, but I've
seen non-BMWs there.

I bet you could get a definitive answer from emailing either:

Not sure what you're looking for here, Jason, but there's a
product called "Smooth Move" that might help you out.

I ran in to a guy I have not seen for years at Laguna Seca this weekend and
he told me he just bought a "fixer upper" E9 coupe.

Does anyone know of a good coupe specific or senior 6 e-mail lists?

We were talking about wheels for the coupe and my friend asked If I knew if
BMW ever sold a 15 inch Turbine/Alpina style five lug wheel.

On a related note did Alpina ever sell cars with "5 lug" 15 inch wheels (I
know Alpina made 15 inch "4 lug" wheels since I had a set on my old E21
323i).

I understand book charges and don't mind them for the most
part. Some customer is always going to bring in a car--at
least in the rust belt--where it'll take you 25 minutes
just to get the wheels off. So a job takes less than book
time on your well-maintained car, with anti-seize in the
right places and frequent inspections. Joe Schmoe's car
might cost an extra couple hours for that rounded bolt.
It's a way for shops to cover their asses when the
unexpected comes up.

I don't like being charged full book rate for a "while
you're in there" repair, that really only costs them an
extra 10 minutes 'cause so much is apart already.

Howdy,

With all this talk of dealers and independents and such...

I do all my own maintenance, and anything I can't do I do with one of my
friend's who's an honest to god mechanic. :-)

Where's the best place to buy parts? I've got the parts cd's, so I can
just write up a list of part numbers and fax it in if need be... Are
there anyone online wholesalers or whatever?

Thanks!

replacement tanks? I remember a Canadian source but can't find it.

I get all my parts from Jack Money, elephantmotorsports.com. From what
I've seen he's cheaper than the online wholesalers, and you get
authentic BMW parts.

I think his website is being updated, but you can at least get his phone
number from it.

Hi Mark,

I have had good luck with Circle BMW, Hendrick BMW, and Pacific BMW. There
is a BMW dealer in Florida, I think it is Paul at South Motors.

I have mostly been using Pacific BMW lately because a I am only 1 to 2 UPS
days away from them in California and they have been very responsive via
e-mail.

Have fun,

Gary,
Neil D. replaced a fuel tank on one of his E30s not too long ago. I
recall him talking about a good used one from a source in Atlanta.
Knowing him, he investigated other possibilities... may still have
the contact info.

Gary, Neil, Chris, Mark, et al.

Color me confused. Mr. Baker's response was not to Mr. Derian's
inquiry, but rather to Mr. Andy's. I inadvertantly wove the threads
together... My comments re: Neil D. still stand for Gary. Please
disregard the unlabeled "p.s." on the last message -- unless you were
reading Mark's 'parts source' thread.
Sheesh. I should just go do my work.

Dave, I bought my '90 325i in 1996. Bill Arnold (independent, San Rafael
CA, no affiliation, great service) pointed out the hole in the muffler. He
also pounded on the bottom of the cat and we heard loose stuff rattling
around in there. He said the insides of the cat were breaking up and could
eventually head south and plug up the muffler.

I priced a cat and muffler. After the shock wore off, I decided to just
keep driving the car until either the hole got too big or the muffler got
plugged up with cat innards. That was 7 years ago and I'm still driving
with the same components in place. There has been no obvious problem.
Maybe I'm on borrowed time, maybe there was really nothing to worry about,
who knows?

Are the valves on an M30 expected to remain claccity even after warm up if adjusted to
14thousands? I may have to re-do them. I'm
thinking I didn't get to the lowest point on the circle on one or two.
Also the weather was very hot (in the 90's) and I wonder if backing down to 0.012 or
0.013 would have been appropriate on a cold
motor.
