Turns out it was a bad relay. I replaced them all with spares, and all
is now good.

BTW, anyone interested in a high mileage E34 525i manual transmission?
M20 motor, 1990 model. I'm selling it pretty cheap!

Kurt;

E34's can do this if the fusibile link, 80 amp inline fuse, is cracked.
it's near battery under black case, held with 4 bolts. can look good
but when taken out has crack on underside.

Hi All,

my beloved 525i is having an electrical gremlin. I keep losing the
radio,
OBC, door activated interior light (although the other interior lights
work)
windows, power locks and wipers all at once. Happens pretty regularly

Get a replacement link for the large inline fuse on the right strut
tower near the battery.

That makes it stick to car paint and glass so well.??

Or , to start another wild thread ....What substance commonly available
to the unwashed masses have YOU found to do the best job of removing
buggly shremnants from paint and glass without leaving 'remains' ??

We bought a new vehicle in July then ten days later had the misfortune
to drive across 'the valley' in California at dusk ....'twas like
driving thru a rainstorm of bugs off the rice-fields !! .Try as I will ,
some of those little bug(ger)s seem to be welded into the paint . One

I'm a big fan of Lift Off, available at Orchard Supply
and Home Depot here in Santa Barbara. Not sure about
other chains in other parts of the country. Its only
draw back is that it takes the wax with it. We just
took a couple thousand miles of those same bugs off
the truck with it, and a couple of hundred miles of
rubber smears off the race car as well.

In or near Austin: Does anybody have the special tools for removing &
installing the rear subframe bushings and rear trailing arm bushings? I
don't really have the $125+ to rent these from Koala.

Thanks,

In my floundering yesterday, it appears that I put the radio code in wrong one
too many times. Or about 10 too many times, not sure.

So, is there a way to reset this? I have the proper radio code. Do I need to
leave the radio off for awhile? pull it out?

Thanks all!

Yes, I see. Like I said before, a good portion of my inclement weather driving is
done on looser snow/rain therefore the narrow tires benefit.

Yes, I see your point, you were simply comparing tire widths without regard to any
other factors.

I think I understand the point you are making but feel it is much more complicated
than looking at your "leading edge solid surface" as the remainder of the tire's
contact is important.

You need to leave it on for an hour, then it will accept the code.

Subject: RE: [uuc] What is it about bug juice ...

I used to detail many cars. For the really stuck on bugs, WD40 is a good
idea, I used a wax with a high petroleum distillate content....such is the
case with Liquid Lustre wax. It is a pink wax available at most muscle car
shows, and online. In fact, I really like the stuff...it cleans the crap out
of the paint, it also removes oxidation, scratches, and tar. This is
obviously a direct result of the gasoline content. Not great for paint, but
great to use as a cleaner wax and then follow up with some carnuaba or
whatever. Another great thing to use for bugs is a bug sponge. This is a
honeycomb type square sponge, you wet it and rub on the paint. It looks like
it would scratch the hell out of the paint, but it doesn't. I get them
locally from Car Brite here in Indianapolis. I believe Car Brite has become
nationwide. They sell to dealers and detailers, I'm not sure if you can buy
direct as a consumer. I would think other places would sell a similar bug
sponge. This is not to be confused with the bug sponge that is a sponge
inside of a gritty nylon mesh looking thingy...that doesn't work to remove
bugs, IMHO (I use that to clean wheels in conjuction with degreaser). And
another way to get bugs off, as well as overspray and tar, is the famous
clay stuff. Great at all types. However, that stuff doesn't seem to work all
that great with bugs...but it does do well on everything else. If you want
to make it real easy...do what I do, use a 240 volt Karcher 2,400 psi
pressure washer with a 15 degree tip :-)...the bugs come right off! (some of
the paint too...hehehe).
