The sensor is tucked in on the topside of the exhaust system at the crotch of pipe where it splits into two pieces. Is a generic 22mm O2 sensor socket going to work, or is there a special BMW tool for the job? Note to anyone changing out a clutch: consider the 02 sensor while you have the exhaust out of the car (in addition to the flex disk and exhaust hangers/hardware). ===== David Kroth [EMAIL PROTECTED] __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Part number is 61.11.1.272.186. It is what powers (and makes work) the electronic ignition system: links coil, ignition unit, distributor, ballast resistors and car together. Cars with L Jetronic won't have what I need. Euro 630 & 730 have a different wiring harness part number BUT it might workable. Again it must be from car from 1979 to 1981 (with electronici ignition). WHY you ask? Am retrofitting factory electronic ignition to a Euro E12 with points. Have all the correct parts, short of the perfect harness. I have one that will work with some mods, but would like to try to find one if findable. Lines on suitable on line junk yards (Nordic countries, Germany, Australia, etc.) are welcome. It is a socket with a hex on the end and a slot to accomodate the wire. It didn't make the job easy, but it was not impossible. :) Cheers. > > > What's the best tool for removing an E36 O2 > sensor? > > The sensor is tucked in on the topside of the > exhaust system at the crotch of pipe where it > splits into two pieces. Baker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] E36 O2 sensor removal I found a tool that works very well on the E36. I'll try to explain it. I know it's made by Performance Tool - I just bought it at a generic auto parts store. It's a very shallow socket with a slot for the wire. But instead of having the drive square on the back end of the socket, it is offset to the side - that's what keeps it so shallow and allows for the wire to pass through the socket. I use this in combination with a flex-head 1/2" ratchet and it makes the job very easy. __ __ / / \ \ | | | | \ \ ___/ / \ __ / | |__| | | _____| Some bad ASCII to try to get the picture across.
