Uh, I think you have this backwards. The Redline NS gear oil does not have
the limited slip friction modifiers in it. The normal Redline gear oil
does have the modifiers. So, you can either change over to the Redline
with the friction modifiers, or just add a friction modifier to the stuff
you have in your diff. The second way may be better - that way, you may be
able to slightly tune the amount of lockup in your diff.

Hello Group,

A friend of a friend has asked me if I will install a new lower front air
dam on his 840i. I have not seen the car yet, but was told the part that
needs to be replaced is the black plastic lower air dam (this one has been
eaten up by parking lot cement curbs). Does anybody out there have
experience with the 8 series that can tell me how difficult or easy this job
will be? Also, he is ready to spend $1200 on a new piece, I know the 8
series can be spendy to repair but there has got to be a better source for
these - yes? Any suggestions? I have not checked the usual recyclers yet,
but fully intend to. TIA.

If it's grumbling, don't you need MORE of the friction modifier stuff?
This was the problem we had with my buddy's E30 325 track car... a
quick trip to the Chebby dealer for GM Diff Additive (the counter guy
called it the "Corvette Diff Stuff") did the trick and saved him from
wasting a few quarts of new Redline. (It's not much savings, but it's
beer money)

Had about 2/3 pad thickness Sun morning. After 3 hours on the track, when
changing the wheels back for the drive home, it was apparent that there was
no pad thickness. Less than 1mm--scored the hell out of the rotors. Heard
it making noise at the start of the last session & figured they were done,
but ran anyway. Just enough to nurse home.

The story is brakes are a wear item.... :)

This would 'splain some things. I knew it would be this as the car was fine
before & not afterwards. I would assume the friction modifiers isn't
something one would just find a t Pep Boys.....

when you wrote backing plates I was thinking backing plates
with ducts, not the backing plates on the pads :-P

I've done in pads that way as well.

Actually, it might be. Redline makes one, so you may be able to find it
with the rest of the Redline stuff at Pep Boys (or whatever...). I've also
heard that the 'Merkin car guys use one by GM or Chevy or someone similar -
probably could find it at any pony car type of speed shop. The
non-lowest-common-denominator parts places, like a good independant, NAPA,
etc. (not Kragan, Autozone, Pep Boys, or any of the other drecky chain
places) may have it, too.

From what I hear, the main thing is not to spill it on yourself. Supposed
to stink worse than any other fluid in your car...

75W90NS DOES NOT have ANY friction modifiers in it. The NS stands for
"No Slip".

The subject line says it all. I would like to avoid shipping, duty,
etc. FYI they will be replacing a set of EBC green that deposited so
much crap on the rotors that the resulting shake while braking made it
unsafe.

Has ANYONE ever had a good experience with a set of EBC brake pads?
I've never heard a positive review of any of them.

Just curious.

Subject: [uuc] Making 2 Differentials into 1

I'm in the market for a Limited Slip Diff for my new-to-me 85 535. While
calling the bone yards (who all can sell me non-LSD), one of them says, "Why
not take mine and put the LS parts from yours into it? I did that on my
Mercedes a few years ago." Mine has a whining front bearing and a bolt head
was found in it when changing the diff oil (making me think of Brett's
recent diagnosis of a sheared bolt head).

So my question is, does it make sense that we could make a slip into a
limited slip by combining the two?

Thanks for your help.

if your ring and pinion are good and the lsd isn't worn out why not just get
yours rebuilt?

or better yet buy a quiafe from Brett and replace your lsd ;-)

Anyway to answer your question I believe the answer is yes. For instance I
used a 3.73 ring and pinion from a non-lsd E30 diff, a quaife from Brett,
and my E36 M3 case and had a killer diff built.

Thinking of buying a 1995 525 automatic with 95k miles. No collisions, but
new A/C @ 70k miles, regular maintenance assured. He's asking $7,500. WHAT
MIGHT BE THE NEXT BIG EXPENSE, COST, AND AT WHAT MILEAGE (ANY STANDARD

We use them quite successfully on our S50B30 powered E30 race car. It
does have big PBR dual piston calipers and 320mm discs though... :-)
