Watch the transmission. I think these were weak on these cars. Make sure it
doesn't slip and doesn't take too long to engage gears. This has been my
experience with E34 autos.

go to www.bmwe34.net for more detailed informaiton but here's a start of
potential items.

- - thrust arms (front suspension part) - causes shimmy under braking
- - driveline, center bearing and/or guibo
- - watch for coolant smell in cabin - problems with heater inlet pipes
causing weaping around heater core

less likely would be:

- - exhaust system corrosion depending on location, driving style
- - rear pitman arms worn, will cause trammeling
- - can't recall if this model had the plastic water pump impeller or not,
would be something to check

Tranny can be sensitive to lack of regular fluid changes. Sounds like you
should be OK here.

Other than that, should be pretty bulletproof. Maybe other can suggest a
few more things. Seems like a reasonable price and the 95 model has the
late model M50 motor plus the extra body styling cues (skirts, side markers)
are nice.

The E34 section of www.bimmer.info is very active. Helpful place as well.

This question may seem a bit out of left field, but I figured if anyone
knows it'll be someone on this list...

Does anyone have a contact at BMW Mobile Tradition? How about other folks
knowledgeable in pre-1950 BMWs?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had a set of EBC Greens on my Ducati, and they worked fine but
disappeared in about 5k miles. YMMV. :)

Anyway, tirerack.com has Hawk pads for sale. Do they deliver to
Canada?

you are right, it isn't obvious, even when looking in it from all angles..
the gas flow is so convoluted back and forth it's not clear if you'd gain by
removing small sections or not.

>My consideration of a DynoMax SuperTurbo is because of its performance in a
>Grassroots Motorsports magazine test.

Dynomax are long lasting stainless steel perforated tube mufflers (great
flow! loud!) that are cheap and plentiful. I got one for my '74 2002 real
cheap, had the local muffler shop weld on a 'z' bend to line it up with the
oem resonator, and it was great!

sort of.. it was pretty loud, and the faster you went, the louder it got..
but the wind noise from my flying brick sort of drowned it out with white
noise so it was ok ;)

since working with Stebro, I've been listening and looking at a zillion
exhaust systems on bmw's and other cars.. and the cheapo methods are almost
always loud, but sometimes sound ok With my '02 I figured I could afford the
<$100 to mess around and try it out, no big loss. cheap, loud, sounded ok!

Subject: [uuc] E36 wiring harness part wanted

Gruppe --

I'm looking for the white connector off the back of an E36 OBC (On Board
Computer) which is part of the main wiring harness to the car.

Junkyards I've talked to will only sell me the wiring harness as a whole
for around $400. Dealership is same story (only lots more money).

I was hoping someone on this list might have or know of an E36 race car
which has been stripped of the OBC (or a junked car) and they might be
willing to clip that part of the harness for me.

Any even remotely reasonable offer accepted.

I really only need the white 18-pin connector, but if possible I'd take
the white and black connector, for comparison purposes. The white
connector only comes on a car with the full 18-button OBC.

Any leads as to who might sell me one at a reasonable price would also be
much appreciated :).

Regards,
John

Lee didn't you say "Who needs race pads!?" Apparently you do. If you
had real pads in that car you probably wouldn't have gone through 1/5
of the material AND you would've been way outbraking the faster cars.

Oh well...

I've had them front and rear on my E46 323i for a while, with two track days
on the fronts. Other than cooking the green paint off the fronts, and a
slight squeal under light braking, I have no complaints. No fading at the
track (B group at Buttonwillow last year) and no dust on the street.

YMMV,
Evan

With all due respect, are you actually using the brakes at all?

I have found the Greens to be unsuitable even for street use.
Apparently these pads are formulated for much lighter cars. An
experience I apparently share with many others is the actual melting
of the pad onto the rotor. We're not talking the end of the back
straight at RA here, we're talking regular street use.

I did have a decent experience with the Reds. For a street pad, they
held up for my early laps at VIR... but as I got quicker, the pads
started to call it quits. Overall, workable for the street and light
track use, but not the first choice for a track you know well.

That is, assuming you use the brakes.. ;-)
