Groups, recently someone told me they were looking for a 325ix. OK, two
people told me that, but Ulf found his, and he probably wasn't coming to
California to buy one anyway. And since I can't remember who the other
person is, I'm just tossing this out. Hopefully the right person will see
it.

Contra Costa Times, Oct. 3:

"1990 325ix AWD, red/blk., 5 spd., gd. cond., $3200/obo, 925-362-1584"

AFAIK I have never seen this car, and I know nothing more than what the ad
said. Call the seller if you're interested.

With the AC on, temperature control seems to work through the dash vents,
although temperature swings a pretty severe if I make any adjustments.
Thumb wheel on the center vent seems to work, but it is "springy" at the top
and bottom of the travel.

Defrost and foot-well vents only blow HOT air, even with temp controls on
full cold (clicked on the driver's side). I have to keep them shut off or I
get cooked. I can open them up some in colder weather.

The Bentley book has no HVAC diagnostics or troubleshooting guides - any
"hot" tips? I can handle troubleshooting electronics, but I need some
direction.

Thanks

oh, and I forgot to mention the brakes (6-pot front, 4-pot rear) on the
Touareg, which were in full out "foot massage" mode (severe judder)
after only 2,500 miles.

Subject: Touareg vs X5

I'm the guy Ben was referring to.

We have a 2003 X5 3.0i Sport Package/Premium Package leased through
work. Rented a "production" Touareg from the dealers lot.

Our X5 was nearly $50 grand. The Touareg (V6) was around $36k I think.
The V6 Touareg (with traditional steel spring/damper) suspension is
certainly nice to drive on road. But it is certainly not comparable
from a "fun to drive" basis with the X5. Every time I get out of the X5
I turn around because I can't believe it's an SUV/SAV, whatever. The
sports package suspension is certainly a bit rough when puttering around
town at slow speed, but once you get going and dive into a road at
"enthusiast speed" it is amazingly composed and comfortable. The
Touareg is comfortable, but doesn't urge you to drive like the X5 does.

(note: I have also driven a V8 Touareg with the air suspension. Totally
different beast. The air spring Touareg felt much heavier but with
better body control. The whole car felt bigger and physically heavier)

Our Touareg had really bad misfires which after 3 days the dealer could
not remedy (but told us "we turned the check engine light off, you can
come pick up the car"). Apparently when you turn off the C.E.L. all
problems magically go away! The rear hatch (glass) would spontaneously
open when driving down the highway. This is followed by a loud beep and
then the car's onboard computer disables itself. (I hear there is a
countermeasure part for this by now) The CD player would spontaneously
decide not to eject CDs, then the next day decide to eject them.

Looking past these problems, the Touareg is an amazing deal for the $.
The 6-speed transmission is almost CVT like. The 3.2L engine is nothing
special, but there is always an appropriate gear available. The
interior is very nice, more cargo room than the X5 (wow is the X5's
cargo area small!), low speed transfer case, locking differential for
off-road, and great towing capacity. A VERY nice package, if it all
works correctly. No, it's not "fun to drive" but certainly above
average for the class, and it is a bargain when compared to the X5
feature by feature.

Would I buy one for my wife to use for her daily commute? No. (aside
for the obvious reason that she doesn't need anything that big to drive
herself to work in).

Maybe our Touareg was the runt of the litter. Who knows, but after two
weeks of driving, nobody in my group was sad to leave it behind. The
X5's keys were still the most sought after every morning.

YMMV. Hopefully it does, because the Touareg has pretty good potential.

Yeah, what Gary said. It's pretty easy to slide an oil pan
underneath to catch the drips - they go straight down without running
all over. I have a problem maneuvering the filter out of there
while keeping it upright - I usually reach right down through and set
the filter on top of the oil pan

Sounds like a stuck heater control valve. Common failure that will lead to
strange or unpredictable temp swings, one side hot/cold and the other side
normal, or full hot/cold.

You can't refurbish the part on the E34 - you'll need a salvage or new unit.

Simple Green? Leather is fairly particular about its pH. Use a dedicated
leather cleaner.

Guess I forgot to mention, that in this convertible, unlike in my E28 and possibly E30
2/4 door models, instead of the oil filter coming directly out of the block
perpendicular to the length of the block, in the convertible there is some kind of
mount that places the oil filter about 1-2" away from and parallel to the block,
pretty much directly under the exhaust manifold!

Roger, so how did the buyback work? How hard did
you have to push the dealer to buy it back? I
presume VW did receive some compensation for the
miles you put on it. What about sales tax?
Did you get that back too?

Sorry for the twent questions. But I'm curious
about this process. I've always had reliable
cars so I've never had to suffer through it.

David, lemon laws vary from state to state. Check on the web for your
state's consumer protection division, which should have details on your
state's laws. It's probably simpler than you think it is.

That is the oil cooler adaptor. My car has that also.

My wife is selling her '74 2002. I've put together a
simple web page outlining the details here:

http://www.z28racergirl.com/19742002.htm

Please forward any questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I can also provide additional pictures if requested.
Car is located in Santa Barbara, CA.

We're selling the '98 Camaro Z28 as well, in case
anyone is looking for a car with too much power.

Fortunately these two will hopefully be replaced by an
e30 m3.

My apologies to those receiving this twice.

It won't fill in any cracks in leather, but years ago my daughter, who owns
5 Arabian horses, introduced me to Horseman's One Step leather conditioner
and cleaner. Since then that's all I've used on my leather. She
demonstrated it on both front buckets the first time, I've been on my own
with it since...

Both rear windows on my '96 328i sedan decided not to operate this weekend.
Fortunately the windows are up, but neither the front controls nor the rear
controls will make them go down (and I've pushed the child lock out button
on and off several times).

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
