RE: [uuc] Re: Cupped tires ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 18 Oct 2003 12:08:14 -0400 From: "Dennis Liu" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [uuc] Paranoia rages (found something in garage) After reflecting on all of this stuff this morning, I realized that instead of sending a paranoid, semi-delusional plea to the list in the first place, I could have just popped the top of the filter housing and checked. Dunno why I didn't... too lazy? Just wanted some reassurance from the list? Jeez... I must, subconciously, really love you guys! So, this morning, per Brett's usual excellent advice, I walked out to the car, popped the hood, took the cap off... and discovered that the thin aluminum central rod did not have the black plastic handlebar-grip-shaped-thingie (the sex toy/condom in question). The filter just fit nicely over the rod without it. Argh. So I inserted the condom thingie, which had been so useful in propping up a rag on my garage sheld, replaced the filter and screwed the top back on. Now I presume that the filter hasn't been, well, filtering? At least partially? Any speculation as to how effective the filter might have been without this condom thingie? The ultimate answer is... change the oil again, right? Just as a prophylactic measure, right? Again with the condom connection... thanks, - --Dennis - -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of KMS - Brett Anderson Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2003 12:27 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [uuc] Paranoia rages (found something in garage) When the update first appeared, the oil filters were supplied with the "condom". After 2 or 3 months, the filters stopped coming with the condom, although it's always been available separately. I can't begin to guess why you have a used one on the shelf, but it's not hard to check. Simply remove the filter and look. If you have a smooth aluminum tube in the housing, put the condom on it. If you have a ribbed plastic shaft, then you have nothing to worry about. To check, simply unscrew the filter housing lid. Let it sit for a minute (hot) or ten minutes (cold) for the oil to drain, then remove the lid. Filter should come out with the lid. See what you see and react accordingly. Greetings all. I could really use some advice from you guys on what to do here. Here's the situation, I was making a left turn at an intersection. Light turned red. I saw the traffic coming the oposite direction slow down so I begin my turn. The car in the lane (2 lanes)closest to the street decides to try to run the red light and hits me in the passenger's front corner of my car (95 325i). His car is a 77 Chevy. WHAT CAN I DO?? He claims he didn't run the red light and that the light was still yellow. It wasn't. I have no witnesses he dad his g/f in the car w/him. I didn't get a police report taken because a sherriff (not in his area) that did stop said a police report wouldn't really help anyone out. He said a report would only take down what we say and not really determine who was at fault. I could really use some direction here guys and would really appreciate some help. Thanks. File a crash report. Take photos of both cars. Document the positions after the crash and before the crash. Get an attorney and hire a crash reconstruction expert to reconstruct the crash and prove that he ran the light (if he really did). Also request the traffic light timing sequence. When you turn left, you must yield the right of way. That is the law in Ohio. Maybe your state is different but I doubt it. Only if you had green and he had red will you be able to get around that. Your reconstructionist will have to be able to prove that the other guy entered the intersection on a red. Perhaps your insurance company will do this, but probably not for a few thousand dollars damage. If there was a personal injury with hundreds of thousands in expenses, lost wages, permanent disability, etc, then the lawyer and expert are well worth the expense. I've been getting a lot of bounces from ISP's that are running overly aggressive filters. For example, I can't use the name of a canned meat product (that starts with an S) to refer to Unsolicited Commercial E-mail, because some of your ISP's have decided to block any email containing that term. I just wanted to let you know that if you aren't getting all the digests, it's likely that your ISP is the culprit. There's nothing I can do (or any listmaster can do) to fix this. Some of you also are having a hard time posting, and this is due to your mail client using HTML email. Forcing plain text is a decision made by the owner of this list (one that I support, btw) and in order to post you must configure your mail program properly. You can get help for this topic here: http://www.uucdigest.com/plaintext.html If you are having difficulties sending or receiving please let me know, and I'll do what I can to help. But I wanted you to be aware of some of the things that are going on. AOL is currently engaged in an anti-UCE campaign that is causing a mass of problems almost everywhere, but I haven't had any problems with this list yet. Just keeping you all in the loop. This info really helps. One reason for the question is because of shifting differences observed on test drives. I've test driven a few 5ers, and the ones with the Steptronic shifted quickly up the gears (shift-shift-shift) when going easy, shifted smartly when accelerating quickly, and gear change was immediate on a downshift. The non-Steptronic, when going easy, shifted quickly into second, then dawdled a bit before going into 2nd and then dawdled some before going into 3rd. When accelerating quickly, it felt more labored, and downshifts did not seem as quick, again a slight delay before gear change. Running rich cools the cat, but if you run so rich that the engine misfires, now you are feeding oxygen which will heat things back up again. The worst thing for a catalyst is a misfiring engine. Lots of air and fuel go in and react. Removing the O2 sensor will not by itself ruin the catalyst.
