Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Investigating a 318 for future purchase Hello everyone, I'm looking into the possibility of purchasing an E36 318 as a daily driver and H-Stock autocross car. I'm very familiar with E36 M3's, somewhat familiar with E36 325's, but I have little knowledge of the 318's. I'm told they were available with a sport package (in 95-96?), were they available with LSD's? Any other performance options of note? I'd be interested in a mechanically sound, reasonable-mileage car, not picky about coupe or sedan, color or convenience options. If anyone can provide any quick insight or links to sites with 318 info, it would be appreciated! Thanks in advance, Vern Anderson ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 07:33:10 -0700 From: "Kevin Kelly" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Just got into and accident NEED ADVICE!! First don't tell anyone else that you ran a red light (above you say "light turned red...so I begin my turn"). The odds are about 1 in 100 that the owner of a '77 Chevy in Los Angeles has insurance so just call your insurance and let them deal with it. The insurance company will probably offer the guy a couple grand (enough to buy a Monte Carlo SS) and he will be happy... With the accident you describe there only three things that could have happened. 1. You cut him off on a green and he hit you... 2. You cut him off on a yellow and he hit you... 3. You cut him off on a red and he hit you... Hey Kevin, Are you one of those old blue hairs that either sits in the middle of the intersection in panic, or tries to back up after the light turns red? My understanding of Manuel's description was that he was stopped, in the middle of the intersection, waiting to turn left. The light turned red before oncoming traffic cleared enough for him to go. So what? Light turns red, opposing traffic stops, he completes his turn. Virtually no dust. Hope you don't mind them squealing a bit. Brake covers are a bad idea - they cut off the flow of cooling air, and your brakes can overheat and fade. Manuel, 1. Are you OK? 2. We can probably give you lots of advice on stuff like fixing the car. Collectively as a group, we know a lot about BMWs. Well, actually, Brett knows a lot about BMWs and the rest of us just take some of the credit, but never mind that. 3. Without witnesses, this is a case of your word against the other driver's. I'm not sure anyone can really help you much, as this is not a BMW-specific issue. Maybe some of the listers with insurance industry experience can propose a strategy whereby you can try to convince the insurance companies that the other driver was at least 51% responsible. Also, in some cases if both drivers have the same insurance company, they treat the situation more favorably than they woud if he companies are different. Also if you autocross a lot you will get some strange looking tire wear. Funny enough, doing open track with street tires does not seem to result in the irregular wear that I see while autocrossing, hmm. Until Manuel explains, we can't be sure what he meant. But from the way it sounds he ran the red light and turned left in front of someone else running the light. Turning in front of someone else when he does not have the right of way makes it his fault. He (and everyone else) should have waited out of the intersection in the turn lane. When the light changed to yellow and then to red he would be out of harm's way. Then when the light went back green (hopefully with a left turn light) then it would be safe to go. Pulling into the intersection is wrong - he should wait in the proper spot until it was safe to proceed. Hopefully Manuel and his car will be OK. If you waited for clear road to move into the intersection in most areas of the US, you'd never be able to make the turn. I'm not defending Manuel's choice. He should have made sure it was safe to go before he did. But to say he should not have been in the intersection (assuming my reading of the situation is correct) is just plain stupid. This is a 1993 325i and the best way to describe it is it tends to pull back when you try to take off. I don't think it feels like it is surging it's just the opposite. Once you reach your speed you don't notice it. I've changed out the fuel filter and friday changed the plugs still no change:( Any ideas what would cause it? Is their a chance that a coil is breaking down?? Any ideas out their?
