There should be attempts to get the user's attention though.  If the user's
attention is finally acquired, it can turn a useless machine into a useful
machine.

I agree that there needs to be a completely automatic means for the project
to protect itself from rogue computers.

Does anyone know how many addresses for a given project are still valid
and actually read?

Even if E-Mail notification was on by default, it doesn't mean the
address is read.

It's the same problem with messages in BOINCMGR.  We can't guarantee
that anyone is watching.

That's why, ultimately, the method of dealing with "broken" machines has
to be completely automatic.
