This is a new tool for studying and debugging the BOINC client. It lets you upload "scenarios" to the BOINC server, then run simulations against these scenarios. A scenario is a description (real or imaginary) of a host and the projects it's attached to. It's represented by the standard client files (client_state.xml etc.) so you don't need to write any XML to simulate an actual host. The web interface for running simulations lets you select a number of client scheduling policies and parameters; for example, you can simulate the current (6.12) client, or the development client, which uses very different policies. You can see other peoples' scenarios, and run simulations against them. The results of each simulation are saved on the BOINC server. If you see client behavior that looks incorrect or suboptimal, you can email us a link to the simulation output page, and we'll be able to immediately reproduce and fix the issue. I encourage everyone to try this out. Currently there are lots of rough edges, and the text output is cryptic. Feel free to request clarifications and improvements. -- David _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
