You may even be more verbose in your commit message such that others could learn from what you did and why. Note: the commit message is another, even more important part of the meta information retained when using this patch format - and I forgot to mention it in my first reply! You, the author, are the best person to describe the patch (implementation) and the reasoning behind it. It's important not to lose that information.
