Butragueño: “The Sporting Management has decided that Vanderlei
Luxemburgo will not continue as trainer for the first team of Real Madrid”
http://www.realmadrid.com/articulo/rma27876.htm

“We would like to thank him for the work he has done since he came to
the Club last Christmas. It was not an easy decision. The Sporting
Management decided that the situation of the team has come to a point
where a change was needed. In a provisional decision, Juan Ramón López
Caro, trainer of Real Madrid Castilla, will assume the responsibility of
directing the first team”.

How long will López Caro be in control of the team?
The important thing today was deciding whether he would continue or not.
Tomorrow there will be a trip to Greece, we needed to decide who would
direct the team in Greece and we have decided that it will be Juan
Ramón. In the next few weeks we will make a definitive decision.

What were the reasons for the Management Group to take this decision?
The truth is that the performance of the team has not lived up to
expectations. Obviously that concerns us and the Madrid fans. That is
basically what we have decided. It was a long Management meeting in
which everyone gave their opinion. In the end we invited Sacchi and
Ramón Martínez to give their opinion of the situation. It has not been
easy. Luxemburgo is a professional. We are sad about it, but sometimes
you have to make decisions.

Did Arrigo Sacchi and Ramón Martínez influence the final decision?
They made their contributions of opinion, but they didn't form part of
the Sporting Management.

In the last Sporting Management meeting, you were a great defender of
Luxemburgo. Florentino Pérez said at the time that there were no motives
to drop the coach, what has changed in five days?
It's true that then I said that and the Committee decided that it was
bets to continue. The perception today is different. It's not about one
match. Now we have analyzed the whole period. We are at a delicate
moment and we thing it is time for a change, with the hope that
everything will be for the best.

Was it a unanimous decision?
Everyone gave their opinion and we are in agreement.

Is there a candidate for the rest of the year?
Football is an unpredictable world. On Tuesday we play in Greece, then
we go to Malaga, everything happens very quickly. We want to consider
things and in the coming weeks we will make a definitive decision. López
Caro will take provisional control until the Management Committee makes
another decision.

Five trainers in two and a half seasons.
I spent twelve years as a player; it's not easy being in Real Madrid. We
hope that our future will be fantastic.

Has there been consideration of the return of Vicente Del Bosque?
I repeat that today was basically a day where we focused on continuity
and on who would go to Greece to direct the team. The replacement was
not the central subject today. In the coming weeks we will take the
decision in the calmest manner possible.

Will the training team leave along with Luxemburgo?
Taking into account that they have spent a long time working together
that's normal. Also Juan Ramón will come with his own team, as is normal.

Who will train Castilla now?
In the coming hours or days it will be communicated who will take
responsibility for Castilla, the decision is already made.

Did Luxemburgo reject the idea of being at the Bernabéu?
When the decision was made, the first person outside the Sporting
Management team to find out was him, the second was Raúl, the captain. I
called Luxemburgo myself. He preferred to be at home relaxing with his
family than to be at the stadium. We understand each other perfectly

Last year there was a similar situation. Have you not thought that it
was not a problem with the trainer?
That was not discussed. We are worried, as is normal, we have a very
loyal fan base who want the team to play fantastically well and to win
titles. We are worried about that.

Was the reaction of the fans on Saturday the last push to make this
decision?
No, it wasn't about Saturday, it's something more general, more global.
It's a sad day for all of us, and the responsibility that we have within
the Club didn't make it an easy decision, but we hope it will be
positive for Real Madrid.
