Usually the World Cup Final produces lots of goals. No final match had
produced less than three goals until, West Germany beat Argentina by 1-
0 in 1990! That winning goal was scored from the penalty spot by
Andreas Brehme, and with the 1994 final ending in a penalty shoot-out
after a goalless draw, it meant that Jorge Burruchaga's winner for
Argentina against West Germany in the 1986 final was the last goal
scored not from the penalty spot in a World Cup final.
