Chelsea admit playing rough

Chelsea had to break up the 'cartel' of Manchester United and Arsenal by
taking all the best young players, according to chief executive Peter Kenyon,
who admitted to having "elbowed" a few rivals to pick the cream of the teenage
crop.
Kenyon's wealthy club are embroiled in a dispute with United over the future
of the highly regarded Nigerian teenager, John Obi Mikel, and have recently
been involved in the controversial acquiring of two Leeds United prospects.
Arsenal, though, did beat Chelsea to the signing of Theo Walcott from
Southampton.

"The quality of our youth development was poor," Kenyon said. "United were
the best. Arsenal became very successful. We couldn't afford to ignore it. We
decided to go for it in our own inimitable style. There's an element of playing
catch-up, and we have elbowed a few. We are doing what they have been doing
forever. There is just another club breaking up that cartel."

As for Mikel, the Lyn Oslo midfielder described as "pure gold" by Jose
Mourinho, Kenyon said: "We have been dragged into this on the basis that the
player wants to come to us. The issue is between Lyn, United and Mikel. If all
that gets sorted out, and he becomes available, he wants to come to us and we
like him."

Kenyon was not impressed when United's chief executive, David Gill, handed
him a legal letter about Mikel in the Old Trafford boardroom. "It is not the
way you do things. I remember when we were all grown up and picked up the
phone. Things have become too litigious." He hopes Gill will call. "That would
be good for everybody."

Kenyon, Gill's predecessor, is disappointed at the huge debt his old club
have taken on under the Glazer regime. "As well as its fantastic footballing
achievements, Manchester United was recognised as the business benchmark for
everybody else to aspire to: debt free, profitable and successful on the pitch.
That's Utopia! United was one of the great institutions." But not now? "I'm not
sure. I am far more comfortable under Roman Abramovich."

Kenyon added that Chelsea were wrestling with the issue of ground
development, amid speculation of a new stadium at Earl's Court. "Yes, we'd like
a bigger stadium, above 55,000 - 60,000 maybe. You can see the restrictions at
Stamford Bridge. Can we extend this site? That would be our first choice. The
likelihood is remote.

"It might be we can't do anything here, or anywhere else. You are looking for
a 20-acre site and there are not many of those around. The Arsenal solution,
staying near Highbury, is fantastic and Ashburton Grove will be great. But
there are more games on television, more games displaced from the traditional
3pm kick-off, and that makes it more and more difficult to sustain bigger
capacities."

  Dein :

silahkan aja Chelsea main serobot sana-sini beli pemain dg harga mahal,
yg menjadi pertanyaan selanjutnya apakah pemain akan mau gabung krn disana
akan numpuk & bisa jadi hanya hiasan bangku cadangan. Tentu mau bila diimingi
duit banyak & gak perduli bakalan jadi cadangan, contoh : SWP. Tapi gak semua
pemain berani ambil resiko itu.

dan dg ikut nimbrungnya Chelsea di bursa pemain yg bisa mendongkrak harga
pemain gila2an, apakah Chelsea bisa balik modal th 2010 bila terus belanja
gila2an, walopun musim 2005/06 paling sedikit diantara 3 tahun terakhir sejak
Roman era tp tetap aja jumlahnya besar, kira-kira 50 juta pound...glek ! atau
total 250 juta pound 3 tahun
