Italy to play Croatia in first game as world champion 20-Jul-2006
*ROME (AP)* - Italy will play its first match as world champion against
Croatia in a friendly on Aug. 16.
The Italian soccer federation announced Wednesday that the game will be
played in the Tuscan seaside city of Livorno.
New Italy coach Roberto Donadoni guided Livorno for parts of the last two
seasons.
Naples' San Paolo stadium will host Italy's next competitive match against
Lithuania on Sept. 2 in a 2008 European Championship qualifier.
Four days later, Italy meets France in Paris in a rematch of the World Cup
final that the Azzurri won in a penalty shootout.
