Iverson, Boozer Named NBA Players of Week 2006-11-07 09:23:49
Xinhua
Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson and Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer
were named the NBA's top players for the week ending November 5.
Iverson captured the Eastern Conference honor after averaging a league-best
34.0 points on 49.3 percent shooting with 9.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per
game, as Philly opened its season at 3-0.
Iverson has registered 30-plus points in six consecutive games dating back
to last season, and has netted 30-plus in his last three season openers.
That ties Michael Jordan's streak from the 1995-96 through 1997-98 seasons.
Boozer helped the Jazz to a 3-0 record after averaging 20.7 points on 50
percent shooting with a league-leading 15.0 rebounds to garner the Western
Conference award.
Boozer posted double-doubles in all three games, while also leading Utah in
scoring (20.7). He led the Jazz back from a 15-point deficit in the second
half against the Suns for the first Utah win in Phoenix since the 2003-04
season.

Warriors Send Mavericks to Third Successive Defeat 2006-11-07 15:05:14
Reuters Baron Davis drained 26 points, dished out eight assists and
pulled down seven rebounds as the Golden State Warriors edged the winless
Dallas Mavericks 107-104 on Monday to give coach Don Nelson victory over his
former team.
The night began on an upbeat note for the Mavericks as they unfurled their
Western Conference champions banner but it ended in a third straight defeat
and with coach Avery Johnson ejected from the contest.
After reaching the NBA finals last year the Mavericks will try to avoid the
first 0-4 start to a season in franchise history when they take on the Los
Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
It was a triumphant home-coming for Nelson, who led the Mavericks for eight
seasons and is the most successful coach in their history.
The Mavericks nearly spoiled Nelson's return but wasted several chances in
the dying moments to hit the tying bucket, Jerry Stackhouse watching his
three-pointer clang off the rim with five seconds left and Anthony Johnson
failing to get off his attempt before the final buzzer.
Jason Richardson contributed 22 points to the Warriors win and Troy Murphy
chipped in with 20 as Golden State evened their record at 2-2.
Dirk Nowitzki also had a big night for the Mavericks with 26 points, 11
rebounds and six assists while Devin Harris added 15.
* Mehmet Okur poured in 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Carlos
Boozer had his fourth double-double of season with 20 points and 11 boards
as the unbeaten Utah Jazz edged the Detroit Pistons 103-101 in Salt Lake
City, extending their season opening win streak to four games.
* Tony Parker hit for 24 points as the San Antonio Spurs held on to register
a 105-93 win over the New York Knicks, who suffered their third straight
defeat after a season-opening victory.
*The Sacramento Kings had double-digit efforts from six players led by a 22
points from Ron Artest to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 93-81 in
Sacramento.
