Yes, the space was at the end of the var's valut in site.config.
I just created three vars with none, one and several spaces at the
end, and showed them in a page:
without space={site.config::nospace}.
with one space={site.config::onespace}.
with several spaces={site.config::severalspaces}.
I see a space before the dot in the last two cases.
