This is a nice overview of what we should be doing. And it would be ideal. However, while my suggestion is not all the way there, it is at least a step in the right direction. :)
Namely, when we hit a good release that seems to be relatively bug free we bump it up a big number. 3.18 has been fairly sound for a few days now. So we could call it 3.2. The next release out will be somewhat experimental--we would call it 3.2.1 and up for several releases, till we get to something we are comfortable with. And then we rename it 3.3 one it turns out to be stable enough. The main differences are I don't intend to continue patching 3.2. Just rolling right ahead with the beta's. And documentation? I try to help--but I'm really leaning on the community to assist with that. On the BoltWire home page, we'll link to the latest stable (3.2 for now). On the downloads page, we'll have a simple link to all the releases. With emphasis on the latest cutting edge release. And special links of some sort to the major stable releases.
