This sounds like it could do the trick.

I was not looking for images, just pages which do not exist.

i.e. test site 
http://boltwire.lilnick.co.uk/october/index.php?p=outdoors_activities
contains link to page 
http://boltwire.lilnick.co.uk/october/index.php?p=computers
but that page doesn't exist.

I was hoping for a centralised list which would list all borken links
- Link Rot looks like the key ;-)

I'll grab it now and try it out :-)
