If you enjoy gentle meandering stories, try the Mitford books by Jan Karon (_At Home in Mitford_ is the first one, I think). I _loved_ those. One of the characters dies later in the series and I cried like a baby (but they're not generally sad books). Recently I read and enjoyed _The Persian Pickle Club_ by Sandra Dallas, _The Secret Life of Bees_ by Sue Monk Kidd, and _Lucky_ (but the author's name escapes me -- it's a hard book to read but worth it). For mysteries: I also like the Stephanie Plum series (by Janet Evanovich) and the A-B-C books (the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton) a whole lot. I agree, the Stephanie Plum and Kinsey Millhone books are great! I also like the Mitford books. What is the Persian Pickle Club and The Secret Life of Bees?
