Thanks to all! BookCrossing is a community enterprise and we rely on
the members to do the right thing in a considerate manner. In
comparison to a lot of other online communities, BookCrossing is about
as perfect as you can get.

This list gets the occasional spam, but that's about it, really. We
went to moderating new members a while back, and the spammers now get
caught before anyone else sees their stuff. There are four moderaters
on this list and we cover each other's time zones reasonably
efficiently.

I identify legitimate BookCrossers on their first appearance and set
them to post freely, as per existing members. Occasionally I might
have a little trouble with someone who joins up to promote a book or a
site and it isn't immediately clear that they are here to discuss
BookCrossing.

What this means is that I don't get a chance to edit the posts of
members before they go out to all other members. I can trim excess
material off their posts, but by the time I get to them, it's too
late. Possibly this would have an effect on digests, but I don't know.

However, although it might seem like a trivial detail, the fact is
that when members don't trim their posts it can get extremely
frustrating to have to scroll past the same material many times each
day. Most of the time those members who are just hitting the [Reply]
button don't realise the inconvenience they are causing to others.

I really don't want to play the heavy-handed list policeman, and I'm
sure none of the other moderators, with the possible exception of
Jason, are keen on this either.

So everyone, please take a look down at the bottom of your posts, and
a little bit of judicious trimming before hitting [Send] will go a
long way towards community harmony.
