Arg! That must have been so frustrating! Sorry :-( Nice that you're planning to support an independent bookseller this time. Good for you!
I pre-ordered book 5 on Amazon.com. The trick is to make sure to pay for normal shipping NOT the free shipping (which is media mail rate and, thus, slow). I received my book around 8:30 in the morning on release day (um, I admit to sleeping on the couch by the front door to my apartment so I wouldn't sleep through the anticipated delivery- LOL!) So to those of you who ordered through Amazon.com and didn't elect for free shipping, I had a most lovely experience getting my book that way. (The shipping box even had nice HP markings on it and it was hand-delivered to me, not just left by my mailbox at the front of the building). Just thought I'd post and say my experience with Amazon was delightful and not a horror story at all. This time, though, I just wanted to geek out and go to the midnight ball at the bookstore :-) I also have a few HP books and related treats to wild release outside the store. I already released a book when I went to see the movie over the weekend.
