There are lots of groups that are appropriate for such discussion, and even 
intended to be support groups, and no doubt a brief bit of off topic posting 
occurs and is acceptable on all lists.  However, just to be sure, I went to 
the Home Page of this particular list to find out what someone joining it 
would be signing up for (what the list owner says it's for - remember, in 
YahooGroups World, aside from the YahooGroups TOS, the list owner is Supreme 
Ruler and what they say goes).

Here's what it says:

"This is a discussion forum for BookCrossers (members of BookCrossing.com) 
to discuss books and bookcrossing."

So, that pretty much sets the topic that someone would expect when signing 
up for this particular list, rather than general discussion.
