Yeah Tricia - I get this isn't a support group. What I am offended by is the post was so mean - instead of saying "sorry about your kitty" and then perhaps just reminding people to keep off topic emails private - instead it was this angry diatribe about not wanting to hear about other people's problems; and then she says she'll leave the list because of it. Why can't we just be nice to each other? My recollection was that the original post WAS about books - and the poster simply made a comment that she was reading more because she was home with her sick cat. The fact that a few people were sensitive enough to ask about the cat, or say they felt badly she had a sick pet does not seem to me to warrant some nasty email to the group. How is inquiring about someone's sick pet offensive to the members of this group? Wendy In a message dated 8/1/2007 7:45:24 PM Pacific Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
There are lots of groups that are appropriate for such discussion, and even intended to be support groups, and no doubt a brief bit of off topic posting occurs and is acceptable on all lists. However, just to be sure, I went to the Home Page of this particular list to find out what someone joining it would be signing up for (what the list owner says it's for - remember, in YahooGroups World, aside from the YahooGroups TOS, the list owner is Supreme Ruler and what they say goes). Here's what it says: "This is a discussion forum for BookCrossers (members of BookCrossing."This to discuss books and bookcrossing.t So, that pretty much sets the topic that someone would expect when signing up for this particular list, rather than general discussion.
