I would turn the StereoXL completely off.  Under audio settings, set bass
and treble to the center position to start with.  When you have dialogue
that is difficult to understand, from a DVD which can be repeated, or from
an old 1940s movie, bring up the treble for clarity, and reduce bass to
reduce echoes in the program material.

You might find that leaving the TV's  speakers on allows you to NOT
increase the treble signal of Boom which allows the Boom to retain a wider
response which is suitable for music reproduction while retaining the
increased highs needed in voice reproduction.
