That's working now in the branch that Eric and I are working on.
It's a simple CSS tweak. I'll merge that into the HEAD.

instead there were "semantic" things like "emphasis." (**) So what
BoostBook do these quickbook tags actually generate?

Like syntax coloration, they generate spans. For example,
[_underline] generates: <span class="underline">underline</span>.
The CSS then does the right thing for class underline.

(**) Personally I'm dubious about the semantic value of "emphasis"
over "italic" -- when you're at a low level like that a specific
request for formatting might be better...

Right. DocBook tries hard to separate presentation from
actual content.
