"Variable lists" *are* real definition
lists. That's just the DocBook terminology. Check out the HTML that
gets generated for them; it's all <dl>, <dt> and <dd>. How it's
displayed is just a matter of the CSS. If you don't like it, use your
own CSS.
I mean DLs that are not wrapped by the '<div
class="variablelist">...</div>' so that they are not style like variable
lists.
And yes it's a matter of just the CSS. But even though I have changed
the display of some things in the past, only slightly. I would think
when someone says "variablelist" they literally mean that. But there's
no way to say definition list, and literally mean it. Just like there's
a way to describe unordered and ordered lists.
Yes, when someone says "variablelist" they literally mean that. And they
also literally mean "definition list" because *they are the same thing*.
Even the documentation for DocBook's <variablelist> says it is the same
thing (http://opensource.bureau-cornavin.com/crash-course/variablelist.html)
"The variablelist is similar to an HTML definition list. It is used when
you have a list of terms and definitions."
So ... are you unhappy with the way they're rendered in the CSS? Do you
have a better suggestion? Care to submit a patch?
Deeply befuddled,
