Right now, IIUC, it's impossible to find a place to begin parsing quickbook without going back to the beginning of the document.
It's *almost* true that you can look back for "\n[ \t]*\n" to find a paragraph break, and start there, but unfortunately we have ``...`` and '''...''' constructs within which you can have as many consecutive newlines as you like. (Right?) That it extremely difficult to get emacs syntax highlighting to work correctly in all cases.
