Dave, I guess I should've just come out and said this before: you might be good at operating in terms of metaphors like toothpaste, but I am not. If I'm going to be of help, I really need to deal with good, solid C++ terms. Even if you're comfortable speaking about programs that way, think it would probably be beneficial for you to try to nail down your terminology and write with precision about the problems you're solving.
